Hi i am hoping to get some advice with my daughters current situation and these episodes she is having. It started a little over a year ago early hours in the morning when my daughter woke me complaining that she didnt feel right. One look at her and i could tell that something was up, she was grey/green very pale, shaky and sweating. She told me she had stomach pain and she was going to be sick so we went into the bathroom and is sick, then she becomes very floppy and has to lay on the floor. I get her some juice and within 15 minutes her colour is coming back and talking to me. I notice when she is having these episodes shes breathing quite quickly which i am not sure if its caused by panic and she also has a glazed look in her eyes as if shes looking straight through me and occasionally making a sighing noise.
Once she is feeling better she is able to go back to bed. This would happen once maybe twice a month when it started but started to happen in the morning and throughout the day to the point whenre she actually passes out, she would come to me very pale and as soon as she can tell me she isnt feeling right within seconds shes on the floor out of it. I have taken her doctors/a&e and due to my other daughter who is older than her had not long had open heart surgery at that time they decided to give her a heart scan and found her heart is perfectly normal and they had no explanation as to what is wrong.
Recently it has gotten more frequent and im worried that she may have one of these episodes at school or on her way home. Last week it happened a few times in one day so we have again been to the doctors who has now decided to do a blood test. When i ask her how she feels she says dizzy, stomach pain, racing heart.
We do have a glucose meter which i purchased in the begining and decided to dig it out and check her sugar levels up on waking which were 5.9 and after breakfast 8.7 are these levels normal for her and her age? I know that her symptoms can more than likely not be diabetes and could be something totally different. With having 5 other children i have never seen this and is not normal. Although my doctor doesnt seem to concerned it seems like it isnt going away.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Sssdna. Welcome to the forum. You’re right, this doesn’t sound at all like diabetes.

Is there any history of migraine in the family? The reason I ask is there is a condition called abdominal migraine which can cause symptoms similar to what you describe. Needless to say, there isn’t a blood test that can diagnose this. I think you may have to keep pestering the GP - an appointment with a paediatrician might be a good place to start.

Hi thank you for your reply.
Ive not heard of abdominal migraine before i will look it up, but as for migraines in the family i don't think or know of any family members that do suffer from them.
I will keep on at her doctor and try to get to the bottom of this. At least she is booked in for blood tests and we can go from there.
Thanks again for your help.

This may sound like a strange question are these episodes occuring when your daughter is on her period (if they have started)? Heavy periods can cause fainting spells.

Ok. I'd keep pestering your GP for answers. Sorry can't think of much else.

Stitch147 would you say that 5.9 blood sugar is ok level? That is my daughters reading the last 4 mornings with one being 5.7. It seems high compared to mine 4.6-5.
Shes not overweight maybe slightly under very slim petite for her age and she doesnt have a huge appitite at all.
Thanks

The readings are perfectly fine and in the normal range. Also blood glucose meters are never 100 percent accurate and the difference between yours and your daughter's is within the sort of discrepancies you can get. If you do one reading on one finger and then another straight away on a different one, you will often get a different reading. Best of luck finding out what the cause of your daughter's problems is 🙂

I would love to have readings that low! As Steph says they are perfectly within range.

The fact that you said your daughter has a glazed look as if she is looking straight through you and has numerous episodes strikes me as being similar to the actions of a friend of mine who suffers with epilepsy.
I may be completely wrong in your daughter's case but it my well be worth checking out. I'm obviously not medically qualified so can only tell what could be a possibility. I know epilepsy takes many forms from being very mild to very severe

Normally im too busy freeking out when she is going through this but if i can manage to record it happening it may help then i can show it to her doctor. Thank you very much i never thought it could be something like this which epilepsy is in the family.

I imagine it can be very scary watching your daughter go through these episodes but I believe the majority of youngsters do 'grow out of it'. At least you may be able to rule this out or in. Half the battle is not knowing what is causing these episodes and once you know you'll obviously be more able to deal with it.
