Hey all I don’t see much info about the up coming release of the freestyle libre 3 here.
As a 30 year diabetic this is one of the most amazing forward steps in diabetes treatment in my experience. It’s relaying real-time BG to your phone every minute, also much smaller than the 1 & 2 versions I also hear it could be part of a CGM system with a pump but that’s not confirmed yet, please all push to get this on NHS it will save many lives from poor management

It's been mentioned. They claim it'll be the same price as the others so presumably whenever they're ready to sell enough of them it'll be available on the NHS and will (over time) replace the others.

It's not been discussed much because it's not yet really available so we've just seen press releases and things. And we're all still waiting for Libre 2.

I live and work in Germany and it seems we are pretty lucky here, I have been using the libre2 for just over a year but really it’s no different than the libre1, the libre3 is such a massive step forward. I hear it’s now CE approved and will be available here in a couple of months, I can’t wait to try it and will of course report here how it goes

I am not sure Libre2 launched anywhere other than Germany from what I can tell.

I suspect we may leapfrog it now that Libre3 has been CE marked, but the time from CE to launch is always a bit ‘how long is a bit of string?’

Partha Kar mentioned on his social media pages that the Libre 2 was coming to the NHS soon this post is from 18th September

Friday weighing you down? Some news for the #t1diabetes community in that case
Libre 2 is coming to the NHS - with option to switch from Libre for existing users
And discussions in advanced stages regards CGM and Closed Loops
Have a peaceful weekend x

And this from 28th September

Good news for next stage of #Technology
#Libre2 goes to NHS Business Standards Authority for approval of #NHS prescribing
Same price as #Libre -added functionality of alarms if too high or low
Anyone already on #Libre to be eligible for switch- if they want to do so
Lets keep the advancement of technology in #T1D going in the #NHS
(And yes before anyone jumps in, Dexcom, Closed Loops etc are all on the radar- and we are working through details etc!)

I haven't heard anything from my team though, I haven't heard a peep from anyone since January though
xx

Yes Libre2 has always been ”we don’t have a definite date yet, but we will let you know as soon as we can” when I’ve spoken to Abbott.

They said they learned a lot from the rollout of Libre1 that they were applying to Libre2. Perhaps they didn’t think they had the manufacturing capacity for a full Europe-wide rollout (that’s a complete guess on my part).

Seems odd to have a new product launched for over a year and still only have it available in one(?) territory though.

Not sure if the manufacturing lines can be converted from Libre1 to Libre2, or whether whole new ones are needed?

My DSN told me Covid delayed the launch of Libre 2 in the UK.
I don't know any more details or why it would be but she said she is not holding her breath.

Hey all,
I have to say I was very excited about the Libre 2 coming here in Germany about a year ago when I started with it but to be honest there is nothing much different to the Libre 1, the alarms were the thing that excited me but you still have to scan the sensor with your reader or phone so in reality the alarms dont help you unless you are scanning every 5 minutes or you add a transition device. The Libre 3 has gone a long way to fixing this situation by transmitting by its self to your reader or phone every minute thus making the "alarms" useful.
My Doctor here (who is also type 1) told me that we maybe lucky and have the Libre 3 available in Germany by Christmas
I think the NHS should jump over the Libre 2 and go for the Libre 3, I'm planning to relocate back to the UK in 2021 but this lack of progress for diabetics over there worries me to the point I will keep my German health insurance running and stay with my German Doctor

That's not how it's supposed to work. See https://www.freestylelibre.us/system-overview/freestyle-libre-2.html

To get real time alarms you do need to turn them on and have the "reading device" within 20 feet, but as I understand it the alarms do exist. (I'm less sure about whether you have to scan in order to find whether an alarm is for low or high. I've also read someone complaining that the alarms were too annoying because what they mostly got was their phone complaining that it had lost connection with the sensor.)

But yes, it does look like Libre 3 will be more interesting if only because it'll be a more direct competitor with other CGMs.

Well I saw that too and so contacted Abbott by chat to ask when it was available here, they are saying they have not got a release date yet,and when it is they will put a message on the website.
I was interested as I will be ordering more sensors in about 2-3 weeks.

My DSN just emailed me back saying there are no plans for it in my area as of yet xx

I saw that this morning too!

Conflict of Interest: None

Doesn’t really matter to me, of course. I self fund, so I’ll be an early adopter whenever. I wonder if Brexit will interfere with supplies. Probably won’t, because these big companies love making money.

I too self fund that is why I contacted Abbott this morning , especially as I will be ordering more in the next month.

I will be contacting Abbott on Monday, as I've just applied my last. Did you phone them or email them? I assume you used email.

I’d phone - emails seem to take ages or not get a reply I’ve found

No it was live chat via the website!
I will be interested to see what they say to you!
