Libre 2 plus using with a reader

Hi everyone - I like many am having issues with the latest ios update so abbot have sent me a reader to use instead of my phone. If I use the reader will the data be transferred to my phone? One of the things I like is that my hospital team can access my data so just curious if they'll still be able to.

I use the reader, and I have to attach it to my laptop (with the yellow charging cable it should come with) and upload the data to the Libreview website, then my hospital can see it from there. I normally upload it whenever I change a sensor, which reminds me to do it.

Hello @Nopancreas and welcome to the Forum.

Because this is your first post here, I don't know how long you've been T3c so please bear with me if I'm telling you things you are already aware of.

I also very much like that my Hospital Team can access my data, during my last Consult I felt very reassured when my Consultant told me that she and her team very much wanted to be able to access my data, arguably more than I did. It's very much their default preference: if a patient leaves a phone message or emails in they can very quickly look at that patient's data and create a well informed initial response. Whereas if they don't have that instant access any response needs to start with a phone call and "interrogation" to then make a judgement on their advice. This is not only time wasting on both sides it is actually disruptive to their daily routines and consequently unhelpful because of the inherent inefficiency. So they are very keen to have access to your data.

Are you aware that at GP level you can be switched, in full accordance with the latest NICE Guideline NG17, from Libre 2 to Dexcom One+; at Hospital level they can move you onto Dexcom G6 (or better in my view) G7. I'm an Android user, but I think the recent ios update has had no kick back for either the Dex One+ or G7. So if your ios issues continue there can be alternative CGMs. Incidentally, when my Hospital moved me from Libre 2 to Dexcom G7, I was having phone issues as well as my body being incompatible with Libre 2 and I asked for a Receiver (Dexcom's equivalent to Abbott's Reader), which was approved. This has the extra advantage that my Receiver works entirely independently of the phone app and is very user friendly, as well as smaller and lighter than the Abbott Reader. So I frequently use the Receiver on its own, when I don't need to be "glued" to my phone; but can switch from phone to Receiver with no worries about which means has been paired to the sensor first!!

Anyway, welcome to the Forum. Do let us know how you get on with this ios issue and if you wish do ask about anything else that you might need a different perspective on.

The data wont transfer onto the reader, but when you plug your reader into a laptop/device it can be loaded onto libreview, which the app on the phone used, into the same account so your team can still see the data and so can you.

Gosh, the Libre Reader is 85mm x 55mm and weighs 62grams. How flippin tiny is the Dexcom one then and how would people know it's slipped out of their pocket?

I have to say I love the size, shape and weight of the Libre reader. For me it is just right for ease of use and is part of the reason I prefer it over a smart phone, plus the reliability because there aren't any possible issues with BT connection with the various phones and OS updates all of which bring with them too many extra variables. I have a desk top PC so just download the reader to LibreView every couple of months with the yellow USB charger cable. The reader will store 3 months of data and if you don't download it in that time frame you will start to lose the oldest data. Mostly I remember but I lost a few weeks once so maybe I should adopt @Robin's approach of doing it every fortnight when I change the sensor.
