Well i have been to my dads and there on the kitchen counter was a warm lemon meringue pie, both my sisters had a plate full, my dad said to me "a little wont hurt you will it"

apart from shooting my sugars up and making me drowsy for the rest of the day ...no!! lol

i avoided but sat with a tiny bit just to smell at🙄

There's a lot of sugar in those things, you did well to avoid it even though they are lovely! Mmmm...I can just smell and taste it now! 😱

it smelt divine!!!!!!!!!!!, but wasnt worth the after effects😱;, oh well never mind a low fat yogurt it is then 😉

Sorry, it is (almost) irrestible isn't it?

It's one of the things I had to ban from the house after I was DX. (No adjustable insulin then!)

One of the few dessert i dont like lol

i am going out to a friends wedding night do, so didnt want to feel groggy plus wearing my size smaller clothes will fit nice yippee:D

I'm with you Steff. I don't like lemons in any form of cooking esp Lemon Curd. Lime isn't much better although I used to love Lime Marmalade.

Lemon Meringue pie was my favorite and my mum's speciality... since she died my brother and I both tried it and just felt sad that it could never be as good as mum's. Since my diagnosis I have edited such things out of my diet so now it is a treasured memory but even as I read your post I could still recall the special taste of Mum's perfect meringue pie 🙂

aww grufflybear, i'm glad this post brought back a great memory for you..

i have just got back from my friends wedding night reception, and no food passed my lips...just 2 diet cokes...came home and ate a pack of mini cheddars and a yogurt...did i mention i have a will of iron!!?:D

if only i had that will before being told i had diabetes😱

well today i have anyway lol

I'm drooling, LOL.:D

im assuming you cant have any due to beign a type 2 and thats why it will have bad effects for rest of day?

I like to make lemon meringue pie from scratch using only fresh ingredients. I'm the only one who likes it so I don't make it...

One trick I have learned is to picture sweet things as bags of sugar as it puts me off so much...

^ many people with type 2 control their BG levels with diet and exercise, which requires masses of restraint in the cake department!

oh right, yes i can imagine that must be quite hard to do!

Just imagine sitting next to your wife who is having a warm chocolate fudge brownie with ice cream and toffee sauce and trying to not feel a bit jealous :D🙄

My father who is on insulin does think he has the more easier dietary limitations.

I can remember once going walking with my girlfriend of the time in the Peak District. It was hungry work and we stopped off at a caf? for a mug of tea and something to eat. I chose the Giant Jam Scone, which was about 8 inches in diameter and very tasty. She, however, was doing a diet called the Scarsdale Diet, which banned any such indulgence, being as it was a version of Atkins and consisted mainly of meat and tomatoes. I ate every last crumb with great relish and sated my hunger. It was a long, long time before I was allowed to forget what I had put her through that day! 😱 🙂

Things are definitely easier when you are on insulin, as long as you have good carb-counting skills and are not the kind of person whose levels go haywire, but you also need to have a different kind of self-control not to indulge too often in such treats, just because you can.

I am type two. Last week I went with two retired colleagues to visit another retiree who is a wonderful cook as is her husband. I've come home absolutely fed up as I was nagged all the time. Why is it when I say "No thank you" I'm made to feel I'm making a fuss. "Go on have a little bit, it won't do any harm" When I did succumb the biggest bit of baked Alaska was put in front of me. I only said about a desert spoonful would do. I didn't eat it all of course just enough to stop the nagging. Next day lunch out and no pud for me , but they insisted as it was in with the price so I ordered a fruit salad and when it came said they could share it between them. I'm quite a happy wee wifey not having puds and sweets and my pals really are nice people but seem to have a thing about sweet gooey food. Whew glad I got that off my chest.

When I was a day patient at a hospital due to depression and anxiety, I once expressed a desire to make lemon meringue pie, and the OTs reckoned that I would never be able to do so! I found this offensive and patronising (as my surname indicates, my family has been in the bakery business for centuries -- my late father was one of the last master bakers, before machine-made rubbish took over -- so I know how difficult a meringue is to make, but I also know that it's not impossible), and this made me determined to prove them wrong -- and I did! 😛 🙂

Tip: Home-made lemon pie filling can look rather dull and unappetizing when compared to the commercial version; to counteract this without having to resort to artificial colours (reds and yellows in particular are linked to health problems), add a tiny pinch of turmeric. This will give the desired vivid yellow without affecting the flavour.
