Hi all,

haven't posted for a while but I have been dropping in every now and then having a quick nose! hope everyone is well!

since diagnosis early feb I have really noticed having the right itch all the time? is this a classic in diabetes or is it just me? never use to notice it before and maybe its completely un related! I don't believe in googling about it it always tells me what I really don't wanna hear!

any thoughts anyone?

Hi sonsam yes the itch, I itch the backs of my arms and my legs, drives me mad sometimes, 😡 don't matter what I put on it to stop it from itching doesn't work, hopefully someone will come along with some suggestions.

I had a supremely itchy scalp before I was diagnosed, but it seemed to go away on its own. But now it's back - aaargh! Not using shampoo seems to be helping (my hair's very short, so I don't need any). I suppose I should see my doctor about it...not much help, I know. 😉 Why not get it checked out by a doctor?🙂

I had itching for some time, the consultant said it was a combination of two factors, severe dehydration (I was downing about 5 litres of water a day before diagnosis 😱) and the sensitive nerves in the skin recovering from damage due to extremely high blood sugar. I was given the following advice and it worked perfectly for me. Exfoliate gently to rid the dead skin, use an oil top to toe to help restore the lipid balance, and drink plenty of water of course, I followed it up with a body moisturiser too. It made my skin much more comfortable. Also be aware of the potential fungal involvement, affecting the obvious areas of the body but also nails (fingers and toes) feet in general and any skin folds. I think it's relatively normal but always best to check it out in my opinion just in case 🙂

Hi. I used to itch when my BGs were in double figures for too long, I wasn't on insulin then.

I agree with Kooky - I have now developed general, all over dry skin, dry eyes, dry everything, and itch like I dunno what esp when I get undressed at night where anything that's been in close contact has been.

(Being a girl - under the bra, all round but esp right under my boobs is THE worst ....... TMI, LOL !)

I am itchy too if I am at higher levels, it's not like really itchy though. I had bad eczema as a child luckily I don't any more unless I get an allergy to something I use.
How are your levels? Could it be because you are high?
