Hi

For the past couple of months I've been driven to distraction with a really annoying itch across my left thigh. Most of the time it's a mild annoyance but sometimes it is worse, to the point I can't sleep etc. I have no obvious skin complaint and I am trying my best not to damage the skin by scratching... that's not easy! I've been using the E45 Itch Relief cream to little effect up until now.

A guy I work with suggested this could be diabetes related, as his dad had T2 and also an itch that lasted many years. Is this a common diabetic issue? I'm coming up to my my first diaversary but still haven't worked everything out yet!

Itching skin can be a sign of dehydration - how are your blood sugars and are you drinking enough water? I’ve heard that diabetes is connected to itchy skin too so it’s obviously a thing. Personally I’d try a different cream if the E45 isn’t helping. There are lots of different moisturising ones that might help. I also like the Banana Boat Aloe Vera gel (clear green). It’s really soothing.

Another thought - could there be a physical cause eg to you cross your leg over and rest it on that thigh? Is there a seam irritating it? Could it be an irritation from your shower gel or similar?

I had ‘jock itch’ a couple of times when I was a gym goer. Towards the top of the legs, and generally to the inside, where trouser-seams caught it.

It’s a fungal thing, related to athlete’s foot, and a little cream cleared it up in no time.

I had itchy arms before being diagnosed this lasted for over a year no cream would touch it but the only way I could stop it was to use a frozen pad used for muscle strain etc. The more I scratched the worse it got and it drove me mad really mad. Can't say for sure it was Type 2 related but not had it since getting control and cold pad was the only relief no cream worked.

Thanks folks. Will mention it whenever I go for an MOT. This is right on the front of my thigh, a patch the size of my palm that just refuses to leave me in peace!

I will switch the creams first and then try the freezer pad thing. Hopefully it can be banished!
