Itching Legs

Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, I'm a type 1 diabetic, and I've been suffering with terrible itching on my lower legs. It's not all the time, but when it flairs-up ( mostly at night ) it's horrendous. It's so bad sometimes that I scratch until I bleed. Has anyone else had a similar experience? maybe it's not connected to diabetes at all ?

It may not be diabetes connected but have you changed your washing powder or shower gel as it may be an allergic reaction.
Until you speak to your Dr or pharmacist if you have some E45 or other soothing cream try that.

This has been going on for a few years. I've been to the doctor, had creams of all sorts, but nothing helps

Oh dear, have you asked to be referred to a dermatologist as it has been going on for some time.
Do antihistamines help, it could be an allergy to something even your insulin or particular food.

Is it in any way connected to high blood sugar @Benny ? Can you see any pattern to the flare-ups? How’s your diabetes control?

Do you use moisturisers on your legs? They might help. Choose plain and unscented. Switch to non-bio washing powder (powder not gel) and avoid hot baths and showers.

Has your GP checked your legs to rule out things like vein problems?

Sorry to hear about your itching legs @Benny - sounds really uncomfortable for you.

Hope you can get to the bottom of it.
