Hi All,

In some of my earlier posts I said I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic! For many years now I have been a pescatarian - a person whom follows a vegetarian diet but still eats fish & seafood! I was wondering if it was okay for a person is pre-diabetic/diabetic to eat a pescetarian diet! Is it? I really hoping it is! I became a pescatarian for moral reasons! I must admit I don't miss meat & poultry at all! I must admit that I eat alot of cheese - I'm am addicted to it! Most likely eat too much cheese!

Any thoughts or advice welcome!

Fish is a good low carb food so one of the foods suggested as well vegetables and salads. A vegetarian diet although a bit harder is also very possible. Lots of lovely fish based meals which will be low carb.
Eggs and cheese are also low carb so absolutely fine as well.

Fish is not only low carb, it is also high in protein and in some cases good fats. I eat Salmon, Sea Bass, Cod and prawns all the time.

As I am also a pescatarian, the title of this thread worried me. Would I be chased by a bunch of pre-diabetics if the answer was "yes"?
Thankfully, the comments corrected my misunderstanding and I can pescatare safely without needing to reclassify myself as an vegaquarian. :D

I was thinking that the title was slightly worrying too @helli  I'm not pescatarian but one of my kids is

Of course it's OK, wife who was also prediabetic mainly ate fish but did include some lower cal meats also, tinned tuna in spring water was her fav & still is, cheap enough in Aldi compared to some big brands.

I imagine you can be a pescatarian on a low or high carb diet so it would depend what else you ate along with the fish.

I don't think you are a real pescatorian if you actually eat a pescatorian. Tho I guess it would be a grey area if the pescatorian were a mermaid.

Just to point out that prawns can be not good for cholesterol (which is annoying, as they are great low carb, low cal protein, and you can make some really good meals with them.)

Old wives tale.. your body is very capable of modulating the amount of cholesterol it makes and requires.
If you don't eat it your liver will make it.

For most people, dietary chol has no more than a minor, unimportant effect on circulating chol: small effect, plateauing at a low level as you eat more. But some people are hyperresponders for whom the effect will be more important.

Gil Cavalhao has a good interview with a specialist on the topic:
