irregular urination frequency

Relationship to Diabetes
I'm 34 and for almost 2 months I've been having this slight sensation that I want to pee however it's not consistent or regular. It started when I was waking up every night around 3/4am with that slight sensation. Last week or so I've been sleeping better at night time and don't wake that much although I awake in the morning with that feeling but it never increases in severity.

I'll have some days maybe where I'm totally fine, normal urination, no urge etc. then suddenly the next day I'll have this bout where I'll go a few times in succession, like twice in 2 hours and I do void a fair amount each of those times (anywhere between 350-600ml). During this time my pee is clear, almost white colour but what's bothering me is why this is happening with such irregularity. I haven't changed my diet or fluid intake. No pain or burning or anything physical before or after peeing. Maybe it is what it is but it's not really normal for me. Usually I'll only need to pee about 2-3 times for the entire day. The only other slight and again mild symptom is that I feel an urge straight after showering even though I just peed whilst showering which comes and goes and I do notice when I'm having these bouts I feel very on edge, like anxious maybe, probably because I'm worried about what this is. However, when the normal urine frequency returns, I'm totally fine again and no issues.

The doctor has no idea about this. I've been to three different doctors. First thought I had was diabetes but I checked my bs during two of these bouts and it was normal (5.4 and 5.9 1hr 50 mins PP). It could be the mirtazapine / remeron I'm on (15mg) but this is an uncommon side effect. It's not an infection or uti as 4 urinalysis have come back negative each time. Doctor not concerned about prostate issues, firstly due to my age and secondly because I'm not having any prostate related symptoms so I'm thinking kidneys? Why am I urinating more than I have drunk some days?

The only thing I could attribute it to is the remeron / mirtazapine but if these are side effects from that then I wasn't getting them when I started it 2 months ago. I've now decided to stop it and it's been about 3 days without it now so will see whether that does cause any changes. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long before it's completely out of my system?

I’ve answer in your other thread - those levels are perfectly normal and way below the level at which glucose would spill over into urine for increased urination

Important to realise that (aside from one or two retirees) no one here has any medical background, and can only relate their own diabetes experiences.

I’m not sure how we can help.

My all means have your kidneys checked out but be careful not to dwell on this because in honesty it doesn’t sound very extreme to me. It’s really not that unusual even for a non diabetic to have to pee during the night. Stress can cause bladder sensitivity but check out all the physical possibilities too. Certainly doesn’t sound like diabetes.

Whether or not it is a side effect of the mirtazapine, you should not stop them suddenly. You can get a withdrawal syndrome which is distinctly unpleasant.

These symptoms aren’t listed as a drug side effect in any event, and sound more like anxiety related, and certainly nothing to worry about. As Amigo says, it doesn’t sound like diabetes for sure.

Thank you for your responses. I guess my question is then some people do have frequent urination as a symptom of diabetes and pre-diabetes before their diagnosis but surely in pre-diabetes cases, their levels do not reach 10.0 anyway but still have frequent urination and nocturia as one of their symptoms?
I am planning on doing more testing/monitoring now, starting with this morning and I got slightly worrying results -

2 hours after small portion of oats with semi skimmed milk and herbal tea- 6.1 - This I wasn't expecting, this seems a tad bit high for me given that I only had a very small breakfast. Given that my previous readings of 5.4. and 5.9 PP were fine before, what's the explanation for this slightly high reading? I remember a few weeks, I had a similar breakfast, 3 weetabixes, oats portion with semi skimmed milk and my reading was 7.0 after all this. So maybe it's the oats or weetabix that's raising my blood sugar level. I'm now worried that my fasting bs level could be high but would that make sense given that my PP readings are normal??

Home test meters are not 100% accurate, and blood is not homogenous - it's quite possible to get slightly different results from two fingerpricks taken at the same time, from the same finger, and even the same drop of blood, so slight variations don't really tell you anything.

Is that homogeneous rather that heterogenous? I mix the two up!

Anxiety is a major cause of urination as is defacation. Something to do with flight or fight syndrome.
The more anxious you are or worry about something the worse it gets.
