Has anyone any idea how well insulated our pens are against the cold.

For instance yesterday I waited in sub-zero temps for the best part of 30 mins waiting for a bus. I was wondering how long I would need to be out before the cold caused the insulin to dip below 2C. I don't think I was out long enough and obviously it depends on how far below zero we are.

I decided to have the part of my bag with the pen in next to me as opposed to the elements which would have helped somewhat.

There may not even be a risk it just occurred to me - she said rambling...

Sensible thought Margie. 🙂

If it goes below 'normal room temperature' it won't be as effective. Not sure what sort of range for day to day use since our rooms vary between about 10c and 20c but fridges are normally about 2-4c which is no good for normal insulin use.

I've found as long as the pen is in a case of some sort and then in a bag, they keep fairly stable in cold or hot temperatures. You could always bubble wrap it for peace of mind.

Basically, insulin is OK unless frozen. Insulin can be injected straight fom fridge - but it's more comfortable at room temperature.

my pen tends to stay in my pocket so should stay warm enough in this temperature, I can find it better if I know it is in my pocket!
