Hi all

Just wondering if any of you wonderful type 1's have ever been to and trekked the inca trail and how you found it?

I note that most packages state that possessions are kept with the porters who are not with you on the trail for the majority of the day but I'm assuming you could keep medications/hypo treatments etc with you?
If you've done it - did you hypo and what did you do about staying with the group if you did?

I'd love to do this in a few years - (I'm being super organised! - Once my little one is a bit older and can stay with nana for a longish holiday!) but I'm not sure if the 'sensible' option would be to do it via train?

Thanks in advance,

Hannah

I trekked the Inca Trail to Ingapirca ruins in Ecuador a few years ago. I suspect you mean the mich more touristed Inca Trail in Peru, as you mention the trin. Not with a group, just partner and me, backpacking, carrying our own tent flysheet with individial sleeping bags and bivvy bags, plus camping stove with fuel bought in Quito. We brought some food from UK, mostly tea bags, instant coffee and powdered soup,, bought sweets, bread, tinned fish etc from shops and markets in Quito - good use of time, so we could acclimatise to altitude as Inca Trail reached over 4200m.
I'd say go for it, and use the intervening time to improve your hill climbing fitness and earn some Spanish, if either needs work.

Good for you ! I wanted to do a 300mile peddle bike ride in Cambodia at one time 😱 (nuts). I have been to Asia on my motorbike with a tent 11 different countries. Please get it done 😎

What motorbike do you ride Hobieman?

I've had a few in my time. I passed my test at 28 years of age and 3 days later bought a Kawasaki ZZR1100 then I bought a Honda VFR750 then I bought a Honda Fire blade 900RR then I bought a Kawasaki 900 Ninja I finished up with a Yamaha R1 but haven't ridden now for about 10 years. I was a bit of a crazy mad ******* and to be honest every time I went out on it never expected to come back home. I was due to go out with my best mate one Friday morning but got blind drunk in a night club on Thursday night. I woke up still drunk and gave him a Dear John so he went out alone and got himself killed. I sold my R1 and haven't ridden a bike since. I do miss them but wouldn't get another one.

European touring sounds like a real blast. I am sorry I never tried it. It was one of those bucket list events where the bucket sadly leaked all over my feet :(

That a good list of bikes DL. Sorry to hear about your friend. I was into sports bikes but getting to old for them. I have been to Ireland twice outer Hebs twice camping on a bike. Outer hebs it was minus 6 at 3pm, force 10 wind & on a bike 😱. You need a new bucket 😎

Brilliant ambition Hannah! 🙂 Would love to do it myself - I remember a friend of a friend telling me about his trip to Macchu Pichu when I was about 20, I was astonished that such a place existed, awesome! 😱 🙂

Here you go, how about this - looks like just what you are looking for! 🙂
