I know this isn't directly related to diabetes, but ladies – I just wanted to share my experience in the hope that it might help someone else.
So I'm perimenopausal – the dreaded hot flushes and nightsweats have been a factor for a while now. Not abnormal by any means but blooming awful.
I eat a paleo diet, which means lots of meat, veg & fruit. Not much processed foods, refined carbs or sugar. Anyways, I decided to give veganism a go about a year ago, and at some point noticed that my hot sweats had disappeared. Amazing. Long story short, as a vegan I was eating too many carbs and put on some weight. Needless to say I wasn't happy about that, for vanity reasons mainly, but also my digestion really doesn't cope very well with carbs, I get very bloated and uncomfortable, so I reverted once again to my trusted paleo. My hot flushes & night sweats came back within a week. So as a first step towards tackling this, I decided to cut out red meat. Low and behold my hot flushes completely disappeared within a couple of days. Reeeesult. So if anyone else is suffering, maybe try cutting out red meat for a couple of weeks. Such an easy workaround to avoid total discomfort!
