I was confirmed with hiatus hernia a few months ago and when I was given prescription of rantidine and lansoprazole my blood sugars came down to a more managed level. The infection from ulceration meant my bloods were rising without eating especially at night. I however am having problems with the effectiveness of my reflux medication and I am now in position where I'm in discomfort as well as much higher bloods. I was told that operation is not really done for this type of stomach hernia but can I insist on operation if medication is no longer working and complications are increasing especially with neology diabetes. Can anyone give me advise.

No idea whatever about the hernia, but this morning your BG rose very sharply in the early hours which indicates to me that you needed more basal during that time. Does it do that all the while? What are your diabetes clinic advising?

The sharp increase is due to the infection from the reflux and ulceration. If I missed my medication then it would do that but not as sharp. I'm on levermir but in last two weeks the pills to medicate for the ulceration reflux and hernia don't seem to work. I'm as low as I dare be before going to sleep but recently climb climb and climb when I'm asleep. I'm producing bile and I'm getting worried. Due to the changes in our clinic in Dumfries I'm not being seen as often it's been over a year since last clinic.

This really is something to report to your HCP, both GP and specialists - they are the only ones who can give practical help and advice.

I'd seriously ring the hospital and try and get hold of a D Specialist nurse for advice - you can't go on like this cos too high BG for that many hours of the day will not help the healing process one little bit - in fact the opposite.

When do you take the Levemir? I ask cos many folk don't split it even though it was always designed to be given in two jabs, but not usually exactly the same amount or 12 hours apart and mine through testing and trying all sorts of different amounts and timings, landed up as being 14u when I got up (7.30 to 8am as I was still at work then) and another 4u around 10pm - at least a hour before bedtime.

We all only had actual BG meter results to judge this on and don't think I'd have got there without help encouraging me and making suggestions to try.
