Welcome to the forum, Paula. Are you hoping to lose weight? It's possible that your calorie intake hasn't gone down, despite avoiding carbohydrates. Or perhaps your activity levels have reduced?

ohhh iv more energy now, i work hard im like a Buzzy bee..with my new found Energy Levels....im eating sooo healthy defo a reduction in Calories...weird....unless the scales in Boots r Lying haha xxxx

Despite me changing my diet to low carb, the weight is still slow in coming off. It maybe our bodies are taking time to adjust,

Hi Paula what are you eating?.I try to fill up on veg.the plate is piled high with the stuff ha ha.the wife can't believe I've lost so much weight.i cut out all fizzy drinks and stopped having sugar in hot drinks.I also reduced my bread intake in the week.i just have it as a treat with a full English brekkie each weekend.i also do a bit of exercise when I can.my weight loss is slowing down but I only have 9lbs more to lose to reach my goal weight.when I started I needed to lose 54 lbs so don't give up keep plugging away.

I lost 9lb quite quickly and easily but I'm stuck now. My hubby cheered me up by saying my increased exercise has increased my muscles which weigh more than fat🙂

At my first appt. my waist was measured and despite only losing only about 10lb my waist is 7cm smaller. So maybe measure your waist to see if you are making progress.

Perhaps there are hidden carbs you're not aware of? Try putting up a typical day's diet and we'll take a look?

Hi Paula
Welcome aboard, sorry to hear about the diagnosis it's always a bit of a blow at first so hope you're giving it time to sink in. Carbs are not the only story for weight loss as Copepod said earlier, if your calorie intake is still equal to your energy output then your unlikely to lose weight. If I remember correctly a 3000 calorie deficit is needed to shift a pound of body weight or something equally alarming so it can be a slow affair 🙄. Taking carbs out of the diet means you have to replace them with something and if that's replaced with fat then the volume is key because very small amounts of fat contain lots of calories. I eat nuts regularly for example, but I have to throttle back the volume on walnuts (love em) because a handful can contain 300 or so calories. They're very healthy items a walnut, but very easy to overdo. So it could be that you need to address portion size, or the healthy alternatives. Have you heard of "My Fitness Pal"? It's an app for your phone or tablet that allows you to put in the food you've eaten, the activity you've done and then it tells you the breakdown of what energy you've consumed and how much you've used. It's really useful for assessing if what you're eating is the right amount for you and where you might want to make swaps for something less calorie laden. I used it years ago, but a friend of mine is using it now, she's doing fantastically well having lost 5 kilos, and for her the biggest surprise was just how many calories she was eating before and how few she needs for her activity levels. She was working on the assumption she needed 1700 calories a day to lose weight when in actual fact she needs around 1200 or so based on her stature (she's quite compact) and her activity levels. It's working for her so it might be worth a look. Best of luck with it 🙂
