Hi Paula
Welcome aboard, sorry to hear about the diagnosis it's always a bit of a blow at first so hope you're giving it time to sink in. Carbs are not the only story for weight loss as Copepod said earlier, if your calorie intake is still equal to your energy output then your unlikely to lose weight. If I remember correctly a 3000 calorie deficit is needed to shift a pound of body weight or something equally alarming so it can be a slow affair 🙄. Taking carbs out of the diet means you have to replace them with something and if that's replaced with fat then the volume is key because very small amounts of fat contain lots of calories. I eat nuts regularly for example, but I have to throttle back the volume on walnuts (love em) because a handful can contain 300 or so calories. They're very healthy items a walnut, but very easy to overdo. So it could be that you need to address portion size, or the healthy alternatives. Have you heard of "My Fitness Pal"? It's an app for your phone or tablet that allows you to put in the food you've eaten, the activity you've done and then it tells you the breakdown of what energy you've consumed and how much you've used. It's really useful for assessing if what you're eating is the right amount for you and where you might want to make swaps for something less calorie laden. I used it years ago, but a friend of mine is using it now, she's doing fantastically well having lost 5 kilos, and for her the biggest surprise was just how many calories she was eating before and how few she needs for her activity levels. She was working on the assumption she needed 1700 calories a day to lose weight when in actual fact she needs around 1200 or so based on her stature (she's quite compact) and her activity levels. It's working for her so it might be worth a look. Best of luck with it 🙂
