Hi, I have Post Prandial Reactive Hypoglycaemia and am feeling unwell.
my BG is 5.7. I am sweating, very very shaky legs, certainly cannot think clearly (it has taken me over 30 minutes to work out how to post this message).

I don't know what to eat. I am on the LCHF diet which I thought was working well until now.
For dinner I had Shepherds Pie, without potatoes (used cooked leeks in butter instead), this was topped with cheese and served with a selection of vegetables.

6.20pm Pre dinner reading was 5.2
6.40pm - 6.8
7.25pm - started very deep yawning 6.7
8pm - Yawning stopped 6.2
9pm Feeling very shaky, sweating, can't think clearly (it took me 30 mins to work out how to send this message1).
Since dinner I have drunk over 1 litre of boiled water.

I am nervous about eating something sweet (usually for me a small dried apricot) as when my BG goes high (above 7 for me), I get very painful eyes for several hours.

Thank you
Sedbet

Hi @Sedbet . TBH I know very little about your condition.
Imo you should call 999 for an ambulance ,
Though your numbers seem fine to me, your symptoms are saying otherwise and seem quite severe so please make that call now. The Paramedics are very good, I’ve had to call them out a few times for both mum and dad over the years.
When your feeling better please let us know how you are

I think it’s rather odd that you are getting symptoms with apparently normal BG levels, which rather excludes the diagnosis of reactive hypoglycaemia, though your pattern of clinical symptoms are characteristic of the diagnosis. I certainly think your problems need reviewing by your specialists. In reactive hypoglycaemia there is a drop in BG to around 4, or even lower. And getting painful eyes with a BG over 7 isn’t a symptom of the condition. Any person in the street can go over seven, if briefly, with a meal of fish and chips with a full fat coke.

I haven’t got the first idea as to what might be going on, but, as I said, you need to go back to the folk who gave you the diagnosis and show them your numbers. Hypoglycaemia it ain’t.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have an appointment with the Diabetic Nurse on Thursday this week so I can discuss this with her then. When I had the GTT is showed a Laboratory reading of 2.1

Thankfully, I feel much better this morning.

Regards

That’s good, Sedbet, don’t forget to take your BG scores🙂

Are you testing your BGL's with a finger prick. I use a libre freestyle but I confirm the reading with a finger prick if my body is telling me something different. Occasionally the freestyle is wrong, usually at the start or end of the sensor life.

Dam wish my bloods were that low but yeh that’s very odd how long have you been on your meds

Hi, yes I use a finger prick test for all my BGLs. Thanks for replying.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I have struggled with Post Prandial Reactive Hypoglycaemica and Rapid Gastric Emptying (no stomach surgery) since 1997. I was finally diagnosed in 2010 and 2012. Since then I have been tried on Acarbose, Metformin, Morphine 3 times a day and I also had to inject my stomach 15 minutes before each meal and I did almost 400 of these, also been referred to 11 different dieticians since 2012, all with differing advice - none of them worked. I am not on any medications at all now and I have now been told by my hospital that there is nothing more they can do for me and I have to learn to live my life around my symptoms. It was following this that I tried to get my own help and decided to look on this Forum. I know I have not got diabetes (been tested) but was glad to see you have the Hypoglycaemia link.

Since joining, I am finding lots of helpful advice and learning something new everyday.

Regards. Sebet
