It drives me crazy and most of the time I just simply guess, and imagine that you havnt done hardly any exercise . You guess the amounts of insulin you need. Unlucky . You dosed too much to do any exercise . Help

Today I had 2 slices of white bread ( had brown in the past , same problm so now will choose white over brown.) With peanut butter on and a little apricot jam . Then afterwards I had 75g of carbs . Two mini trifle and half a 175g choc santa .

This is the result.

Usually it goes to 15 or 18..although I usually eat more snacks than that.

I mean I tried to work it out but apparently the ratio 1:5 is only about 12 units...well I had way more !! It may be very slowly coming down too.

I had 8 units for the toast . I had 12 units for the dessert...then ( hate the thought of this weird spilt dose, I avoid it at night, makes me incredibly stressed knowing I could go hypo hours later . Then I had 5 ..yep a guess

I don’t know how you calculated 12 units for the dessert as that was 75g of carbs? So if you ate 40g carb toast, 75g carbs dessert that’s 115g carb. You took 20u insulin so that’s a ratio of 1u to 6g carbs.

If that ratio regularly makes you low (6.6 is not low. A hypo is under 4) after then try a different ratio eg 1u to 7g carbs. Remember you may need different ratios for different times of day.

Also if you’re struggling with the maths why not use an app to calculate the dose? There’s various options available.

Sorry to hear how difficult you’ve been finding things @Upset Racoon

I completely agree with you, diabetes can be so fickle, annoying, and contrary :(

I do wonder whether some sort of bolus calculator might help? I certainly found that when I had the (now discontinued) Accu-chek Expert smart meter / bolus calculator. It gave me the option of making smaller tweaks numerically- without having to keep the maths easy. Plus it would add/subtract to aim to keep me mid-range.

There are various software / smartphone app versions available, if you think something like that might help?
