That is fantastic traceycat, I gave up on Wed 27 January 2010 after smoking for over 30 yrs, it's one of the best things that I have ever done. I have never looked back.
It will be hard, but willpower will get you through that and don't forget to give your self a treat every now and then. Best of luck, I'm willing you to do it. Sheena x

awwh thanks for that shenna hun, i realy hope i can do it

Good for you Tracey. You'll be a lot better off health and finance wise.

Best of luck. 🙂

Rob

thanks rob

Good luck !! you know it makes sense. !!! Bravo !

Tracey, what a star. I gave up after 20 years nearly 8 years ago now. I was a very very heavy smoker.

I did it cold turkey eek ! I can 100% tell you that if I can give up, anyone can. I was once told that only 20% of smokers are actually addicted so regardless of whether you are or not, pretend you are in the 80% and it will be a doddle.

Go for it and instead of taking it a day at a time, that is too damned long, take it an hour at a time and then you will progress to half a day, then a day and one day very soon you will get to the end of that day and think 'oh gosh, I didn't think about fags today'. That day is amazing.

Good luck. 🙂🙂

Yep it will be, big time. You should think of a treat but not food. I made that mistake ok and substituted fags for maltesers, 3 stone later, yep seriously. Find something that you can use as a treat. For example, if you love playing the Wii or DS, save for a game (that is an example as I couldn't think of anything else). Save for a ticket to see a show. Focus on something, anything will do.

thankyou carol

Great that you have made the decision Tracey 🙂 One thing I would say is don't think of it as something you are 'giving up' - you are not, you are STOPPING doing something that is doing you harm. To stop doing something you know is not good for you is easier to think of than 'giving up' something, as that suggests you are depriving your self of something good - if you see what I mean! 🙂

I stopped just over 15 years ago, after smoking 20-40 a day for 20 years. I had tried patches and gum, but found that they tended to keep me craving nicotene, so I actually found it easier to go through 3-4 weeks of bad-tempered withdrawal symptoms (which is how long it takes for the nicotene craving to go) and then a much easier several months of avoiding the habit. I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking which really helped me.

Good luck, and don't forget we're all here to cheer you on! 🙂

I have to be honest and say that Allen Carr's book just made me laugh, all about little green or purple monsters or something. Only managed half but it is each to their own and my sister also did stop reading that book as did her friend. 😉

Good luck.

I gave up smoking six years ago after twenty years of puffing away. As I'd abused nicotine replacement therapy (gum, lozengers, spray, inhalator, patches) by using them when I was in situations where I couldn't smoke (public transport mainly), I took Zyban. It was a complete cure. The smoking cessation nurses said they'd thought the person most likely to fail would be me!

Best of luck Tracey! xx

I have to say, this was my experience with patches - as I reduced the strength of the patches as you are supposed to do, I just started smoking again to keep up the same levels of nicotene! I also found that the patches were too strong to start with and suffered lack of sleep and very vivid nightmares with them, so something to beware of Tracey. Hopefully, your experience will be better than mine and they'll do the trick 🙂
