Hi ,I am trying to lose weight and have cut down on carbs to 80 carbs a day ,I am.basically eating veg ,fruit and meat / fish and getting my carbs from there bit I am getting so fed up with kale and brocolli that I think I might turn green , any advice please would be most welcome as have cut out pasta and rice due to carb load

Do you like other veg apart from broccoli and kale. ie, cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, brussels sprouts, courgette, aubergine, celeriac, swede, butternut squash, fennel, pickled veg. like beetroot and gherkins can really add extra zing to a meal?

How do you cook your veg? Just plain old boiled or steamed is pretty boring. I mostly do my veg in the microwave with a knob of butter but then it depends how I am serving them and what with as you can also roast or saute. Cauli can be boiled and mashed with a dollop of cream cheese and a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard instead of mashed potato and of course it is great with grated cheese and served with high meat content sausages or ham/gammon. I often serve my broccoli with a spoon of sour cream and chive dip from the chilled counter and that also works with leeks and cabbage or a spoon of cream cheese stirred into them with some chopped salami or bacon cooked crispy in the frying pan or microwave and a tiny bit of chilli jam mixed in or I love curried cabbage (cabbage bhaji) which is very different to onion bhaji as it is soft cooked with onions and tomato and garlic and spices and is really yummy! If I have any left over, I will eat it for breakfast because I just can't resist leftover curry the next morning and this is mild but tasty.

We had a whole thread just on cabbage recently, which I will try to find and link...

Here we go....

You beat me too it as I was having dinner, salmon, with courgettes and leeks with cheese sauce (just cheese and spoon of sour cream and tsp mustard heated).

Try some herbs and spices, make two shopping lists, or even three so that each week is different. I don't buy mushrooms and tomatoes in the same trip to the shops even now. Maybe once a month do some baking - there are lots of low carb recipes online. I have had to start a second lever arch file and buy a lot more plastic sleeves as I have so many recipes now.

Just had fish on a bed of fried lettuce, onion, peas and tarragon with a wine and cream sauce.
Delicious.

Loads of great ideas above -I do low carb and sometimes have some quinoa and lentils (whole green or puy) - Cook and freeze in portions - in place of ricey type things -they’re not as low carb as maybe cabbage but you don’t need much, can bulk out and flavour with spices, diced veg, very versatile and filling -I have a one pan dish with some cheap white fish diced and a bit of diced chorizo plus whatever veg I have and a bit of paprika cooked into the quinoa mix. Or cook your veg pan-style with a little diced smoked bacon or chorizo, or add some grated cheese ontop of your cooked veg and pop under the grill. I think theres a good thread on here somewhere with cabbage.
