After seeing the spinal specialist on Tues, I found out I should of been prescribed Gabapentin and after speaking to my local doctor they have prescribed it, another med on my shopping list of meds, talk about shake rattle and roll :D

Does anyone take it and if so how effective do you find it in helping with nerve pain, it's primary function is for epilepsy. I have been prescribed it to try and help with the spinal cord damage, and already they have increased the dosage of my amaltripalyne to try and help reduce the pain.

I’m on pregablin pretty much same drug I think.
I find it beneficial. Helps me with the neuropathy.
I was once on amytriptyline alongside Prozac, morphine patches,co-proxamol and tramadol for a very bad episode of dual sciatica about 20 years ago. Didn’t touch it and hated amytriptyline.
Touch wood.! Sciatica been under control on pregablin, morphine sr.& Oramorph. I notice a difference if I don’t take pregablin.

My cocktail is codeine, amytriptyline, morphine and now the gabapentin (1st dose at bed time), I can't take anything with paracetamol in it as allergic to it. My current gp does not prescribe tramadol and when I could have it, hated it as knocked me for six and only enough diazipan for 3 days and have trouble getting it more than once, had it twice now and very no chance of any more. One doc wanted to give me naproxin but that has me creased up in agony so that rules out a list of other meds I could take.

I must be close to 35 tablets a day and get reluctant to add new meds, espec when the codeine just about takes the edge of the pain and the morphine gives me relief for around an hour if lucky.

Hi Pav, I`ve been on Gabapentin (Neurontin) since 2006 due to nerve damage in spine and since Diabetes kicked in lower legs, feet and hands. I take 900mg 3x a day, as @Hepato-pancreato says Pregablin is similar and is used to treat Peripheral neuropathic pain as well as Epilepsy. It takes about 3-4 weeks to become effective so bare with it, seems you've got enough to cope with but be prepared for an increase in dosage. Take care.

On a starting dose of 300 mg at night increasing to 300 mg 3 times a day. Took last nights dose a bit early and was feeling sick most of the night, will be taking to nights dose a bit later, forgot what the doc said about increasing it, will give it a couple more days then introduce the morning dose to see how that goes.
