Hi Sally, welcome! I'd never heard of freedom 4 life, but a quick Google shows it seems to be what Bath diabetes clinic call the DAFNE or carb counting course. Do you live near Bath?

Hiya, no I'm in Chester! these courses are always so far away! No worries I just thought it was an online thing!
Thanx

Well doesn't your hospital offer a course? Thought they were all supposed to now.

Anyway if your looking for an online course, why not go for BERTIE online? See https://www.bertieonline.org.uk/

Shedloads of individual hospitals own courses are based on it, eg Coventry/Warwick CARBS 4 1, and Nuneaton's GERTIE.

Welcome @Sallymarmite, glad to have you join the forumwith all your years of experience.

As others have said there are a wide variety of courses offered. I know that I learnt a lot from DAFNE when I joined that course, partly because I had never met anyone else with T1 at the time.

I have also learnt a great deal more from people on here. Any question is welcomed and someone comes along with an answer.

I was 30+ years 'in' when I was invited on the CARBS 4 1 course - and it's still the most useful 4 days I've ever spent (since 1972 LOL) for my diabetes.

Like me - it's 99.9% likely all the medics think you must already know 'everything' by now! Please DO ask and KEEP asking time after time after time until you get on a course.

Yes I'm the same, 33 yrs in and never been to one and yes I think docs think you have it in the bag most of the time!! I go next month to the hosp so will defo ask xx

The Online BERTIE course is good if you can't get on a 'live' one - but honestly you gain so much by doing it all collectively, when other people say what they do 'when' and ask the questions YOU want the answers to also, only you forgot to ask! You all help each other with things.

And - it's good fun!
