Hi,

Can someone give me advise?

I forgot to inject Lantus last night. Now what? Should I just leave it? Or inject it now??

I've never forgotten it before!!

Thanks for help! 🙂
Cath

If it were me, I'd give half the dose this morning. You do need background insulin so I would inject asap. That will mean that you're likely to run high during today as you'll have less than the usual dose of background insulin present. Tonight I'd then just give a normal injection of lantus, but that'll mean you're running with more than usual background overnight and are more likely to hypo. To stop that I'd eat extra carbs before bedtime.

Still, feel free to ignore me, I'm not a doctor or an expert. Internet advice could be dangerous to your health.

Oh dear! You're not the first Cath, so don't feel too bad about it! How were your levels on waking this morning? I think that the accepted method is to work out how many hours you would normally still have to go until your next normal dose and calculate how much less to take now. So, if you were on24 units for example, and you've missed 10 hours, then you would take 14 units instead now. Keep an eye on your levels - you may need a little extra fast-acting with your meals, but be prepared to run a little higher than normal today. If you can get hold of your DSN, then it would be worth getting her opinion. Hope all goes OK! 🙂

Oops. :D

Would agree with all said. 🙂 Test lots and use rapid acting (sparingly) to keep from going very high but wouldn't worry overly at 10s or 12s for the day.

Good luck.

Alternately you could decide to inject the whole Lantus dose and make it the time of day you inject. ie Inject the lot now and then inject the lot at this time tomorrow. The biggest problem with this is remembering not to inject tonight.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am running high ... but would rather that than low. I'll just inject some now and measure BG more than usual today. Getting hold of DSN would be nice but know that's impossible because it's weekend!
