You may remember a few weeks ago I had a tummy incident, lasted most of a week after I had fish with a spicy coating from the shop across the road.

Well today I fancied fish and chips so went to a different place with a plain coating.

Tummy doesn't feel as bad as it did with the spicy coating, but now after everything else I am wondering if I can't tolerate 1) fried food (makes me feel sick thinking about it and I have to go into another room if any one wants a fry up) 2) I can't tolerate bought fish (i.e fish I haven't cooked myself) 3) I can't tolerate the coating or 4) a mixture or all of the first three.

Hi Caroline

Not sure if this is helpful, but I can't tolerate deep fried fish either, it triggers my IBS. The dietician I used to see said it was a common trigger because the fish and batter absorb an unusual amount of fat. I don't have trouble with fat in general just chip shop fish. They also tested me for gall stones because chip shop fish is a well known trigger for gall stone related colic, so I think it's a fairly common trigger :(

Caroline I'm sorry that i haven't got any advice but I wanted to say that I'm sorry that you're feeling so down. Big hugs {{{{{Caroline}}}}} I hope that you have a nice weekend🙂

Hi Caroline, so sorry about your tum.... not nice :(
As you obviously love fish perhaps buy some white fish and grill/steam it then see what happens to your tum. If no additives and you have an upset tum then you know fish is a problem.
My Mum has an issue with certain types of fish and her tum soon lets her know about it if she eats the wrong fish. :(

Hi.

I can sympathise.

Did you have it in batter both times? Could be the batter

I find that deep fried food will upset my stomach, it's the oil. Try the fish again but don't eat the batter, just eat the fish.

Yes it was in batter both times, the first time was a spicy batter and took days to sort itself out this time it is just a plain batter.

I think the consensus is it is the batter or the oil or both causing the problems so I know what I am avoiding.

Thanks for help and support everyone, things seem to have sorted themselves out.

Having been alright all day Saturday 16th, I find I am having another night of it so I think it will be a chat to my GP on Monday to see what advice can be offered.

No fried food during Saturday and was very careful what I had to eat so I really don't know...

Canola Oil?

We call that rapeseed oil. I hope you're not referencing the urban myth that it causes everything short of nuclear war; to my mind such a claim of broad-spectrum activity, whether positive (colloidal silver) or negative (canola) is a sure sign that said claim is bovine fertiliser. 🙂
