I have been lucky not to have a lot of illness in my adult life. Currently I have the most appalling cold and cough and feel absolutely awful. Blood sugar levels are not good and I ache everywhere and I am running a high temperature. I don't want to eat, but have been forcing myself to drink. Is this just an ordinary cold and is the D making me feel so rough? Can I expect this every time I get a cold? Is it worth taking Robitussin for the cough? Most cold/flu things have sugar in them. Would lemon juice with sugar substitute be ok to help to break up the phlegm? Sorry to moan but I am a poorly dog today :( and wanted to hear from people who know.

Sorry to hear you've got such a stinking cold, Happydog. Have you got the sugar-free Robitussin? I always take it when I've got a cough - follow the instructions to the letter and it should sort you out. I find all colds are different - some stinking, some mild - just like before I was diagnosed. Hope you're feeling better soon.😱🙂

Hey, happy dog, sorry you are feeling so rough. Am just getting over something that sounds very similar. I felt so bad I haven't even knitted for a week 😱 sugars are beginning to go back to normal, hope you feel better soon.

Oh dear Happydog, hope it clears up soon for you. Colds are my nemesis, and I never get a little sniffle I get a proper hacker. I never take cough medicine personally I take decongestant tablets for a few days and inhale steam for a few days to loosen it all up and it seems to dispatch it fairly quickly. I also take vitamin c, I have no idea if that does anything but it seems to help to stop the cough settling in for too long. Hope you feel better soon 🙂

I'm sorry that Happydog is a Poorlydog. sorry that I haven't got any suggestions but hope that you feel much better very soon.

I hope you feel better soon. It is important to keep fluids up. If you can't shift the cough it is worth talking to the pharmacist to see what they can advise or see the doctor if the cough is really persistent.

Thank you all for your kind wishes and suggestions. I have the sugarless Robitussin which contains a decongestant so I will give it a try. I will also try to drink fluids and rest and see if I can shake it off. I know AJ will understand when I say I am missing walking my dogs, but they are happy to curl up beside me on the bed. Normally never allowed!

I'm so pleased that you've got the dogs on the bed with you. They should now be allowed on there all of the time. Susie loved our bed🙂

LOL, AJ, don't think my husband would go for that, but dogs are right behind you cheering.
Feeling a bit better and people on the forum have cheered me up, thank you all. At least no one said it is only a cold buck your ideas up 🙂

Careful there Happydog, my little fur ball has taken permanent residence on my bed. She started creeping in when I was ill last year (just to make sure I was OK you understand) and there's no moving her out now. I tried to relocate her to her bed but I found her right back by my side munching my hypo biscuit stash from the bedside table. I suspect she will be my nighttime companion forever now, complete with shedding fur, impossibly muddy paws even when there is no mud outside, and very cold nose 🙂

Feel better soon 🙂
