I am looking for suitable diabetic recipes where the ingredients come to no more than £3.10 a meal, preferably ones that don't need a cooker to make, any suggestions?

Like the one here: https://lordlandless.weebly.com/diabetics-eat-4-cheap.html I'm not sure cornflakes and banana are the best combination for people with our illness but they do fill you with energy.

Any creative cooks on the forum? 🙂

Its a challenge but i would go for something like this......

If you shop at Lidl/Aldi foods can be better value and look at reductions shelf for good offers..... a pack of something mentioned here could last you a week.

Breakfast.....1 wholemeal bread - Heavily topped with tinned sardines/ mackerel (about 60p), peanut butter 85p, or marmite

Lunch....Meat platter (again Lidl) Anti pasti £1.99 (pack = 2 days worth) with cubed brie (79p pack) or mozzerella 46p. cucumber (80p), tomatoes (£1). Bag of apples (69p last a week).

Evening meals......chicken slices (£1.59 will do 2 days) or other cold meats (pepperoni 85p) corned beef 85p. Bag of salad or spinach leaves (99p) mayo (59p) tub/jar of olives.

snacks = multigrain crackers (lidl box 69p) 3 with cottage cheese (79p) add pepper & spring onion. or celery, carrot / cream cheese. Large tub greek Yogurt (90p).

When you said Marmite you had my full attention, I love it 🙂 Good advice there Tee, do you mind if I share it to that homeless site? Many there I am sure would appreciate your ideas (y).

As you are type two bread and bananas are best avoided as they fill you with glucose, not energy. Unfortunately many ready to eat foods are high carb and many people controlling their diabetes make all their own food to avoid it.

Of course you can share it - im pleased you liked it. (Try to find a bread with the lowest carb value per 100g.) It is hard to find nutritious food without cooking. I think the fish/meat protein element will help fill you up. And an apple a couple of times a week wont be too bad for diabetes. I know budget is tight, and things like the marmite will be expensive, but portion for portion, its cheap and lasts a long time. Stay well, go carefully.

Thank you Tee G, that's great advice, I'll give you a mention, you could be famous one day :D

These are difficult times when you don't have a home, finding electricity to charge up is the hardest with nothing open, getting on line is getting harder so I cannot guarantee when I will get round to it but I will I promise. I will send you the link.

You are right about Marmite, it's so expensive but also the best thing on the UK supermarket shelves, normally I carry a jar with me, you can scrape and scrape and scrape it, there is always one last scrape but I had to put hot water in my last one to make a drink, which is also very nice.

I had time so I did it, thank you https://lordlandless.weebly.com/diabetics-eat-4-cheap.html

If you can boil an egg, then eggs are good for a meal for a T2 Diabetic. They are all good protein and good fats. only a trace of carbohydrates.

A lot of the time having access to heat whilst on the street is difficult, transporting eggs too is a logistical nightmare but you are right, they are very tasty when we can cook them, scotch eggs are a favourite of mine.

I am in a hotel room at the moment, it has a kettle, I boiled some eggs in that, getting any food at the moment is really difficult, I was lucky to get some eggs, people are buying them very quickly and there are very few to spare, what we get is what no one else wants, but hay, beggars cannot be choosers! :D

I am glad that you have a room at present, and access to a kettle.
Take care (from another marmite lover)

Miffed, have you thought about couscous for when you have a kettle? A big bag does not cost much and all you need to do is pour boiling water on it and leave for a few minutes. You can then mix into it anything you might have that does not need cooking - anything from chopped up veg to fruit to any tinned stuff. You can eat it cold later if need be.
