It’s my husbands birthday today and we went out for lunch and had a huge salad with chicken, bacon and mayo. I’ve been feeling really rough since - I don’t feel like dinner, and I am getting fed up of always feeling ill. I am still very sleepy after eating. I am type 2 and have reduced my carbs a lot and am in metformin 1000mg twice a day.

Anyone else feel like this? Any tips?

Hi Stuart, really sorry to hear that you are not feeling well :( Do you feel it is the side effects of the metformin that are making you feel nauseous? Might be worth asking for the slow-release version to see if that improves things. If you're not used to eating a large meal lately, that might have contributed to the stomach upset. What are your blood sugar levels like lately? High or fluctuating levels can cause nausea also. Others may have tips regarding the metformin. I know how feeling like this can really affect your quality of life - I felt the same for a few months after my diagnosis, but things did improve eventually as I managed to bring my levels under good control. I hope things begin to improve for you soon, do let your nurse or doctor know how you are feeling as they may be able to help.

I felt dreadful all the time I was taking Metformin - but I wondered what your BG level was. Do you have a meter to test with?
With the heat it can be difficult to stay hydrated, and that doesn't help at all.
If you don't feel like eating, do try to drink instead.

Thanks Northerner, I don’t tend to monitor my blood sugars. My doctor told me I need not need to, I bought my own machine, but did not really know how to use it or how to interprete the results. A friend came for dinner last night, she explained a bit about this and I will be testing daily from now onwards. I am not sure if it’s the metformin or not.

Its very important to keep Hydrated 😉
Hi Hobue, I try and drink lots of water. Just found out that no added sugar concentrates are not good due to natural sugars in the fruit.

Thanks Drummer, my bloods tend to be between 6 and 8 when I have tested, will have more results in a few days now I am going to start testing more regular.

Self testing is a good tool to have with this thing. GPs say don't bother....no idea why. I will test forever.
