Hi Gail, how are you doing?

I'm on Diamicron MR. It basically makes your pancreas release more insulin. The MR means modified release, which means the tablet releases the medicine slowly over time (but you probably knew that). The side effects are pretty much like any other oral anti-diabetic medicine, ie it could give you an upset stomach, nausea or the galloping runs. Like Metformin these things bugged me a bit for the first week but settled down after that, the MR bit should reduce the chance of side effects.

Does it work? Presumably yes or they wouldn't prescribe it. For me? I'm not so sure, my blood sugars are a bit all over the place at the moment, my silly, lazy pancreas doesn't get up early enough in the mornings to deal with breakfast and hence I go to work feeling like a zombie thanks to high blood sugar only to find it then drops like a stone and i feel even worse before it settles to somewhere between 6 and 8 before lunch. But that's just me.

It sounds good that you're on it, but if you're on insulin you may need to watch out for hypos.

Here i am, dishing out advice on medication again....it's like I don't work for the worst hospital in the region...😱

I was on this medication along with insulin and found I was gaining a lot of weight, The GP advised that both of these mdications can cause weight gain.
