I was just wondering if anyone has any advice , I have had a blood test and was told I'm not going through the menopause yet , but what concerns me is I've always been told I won't be able to have HRT as 1 I'm a type 1 diabetic and 2 I've had a DVD in my leg before . I'm just wondering if any ladies on here would like to share ( only if they want too of course )their experiences of HRT and if anyone uses alternatives that help thank you .if you do not want to share maybe you could message me .

Hi Jenny, whilst I'm not in your position, I did edit an evidence-based medicine textbook some years ago that had a chapter on DVT. In 1999 when the book was written, there was no clear evidence of a causal link between HRT and DVT.

If I were you, I'd look at the NICE guidelines and go back to your doctor if it disagrees with what you've been told.

As for alternatives, I have a friend who swears by a spoonful of black flax seed/linseed (which contains phytoestrogens) sprinkled over her cereal in the mornings. She got that tip from Woman's Hour.

I'm pretty much done with it now as Aunty's last visit was a year ago last May. I was told the same thing, no HRT because you're diabetic. I seem to be doing OK without it, apart from the beard and tache that is. 😉

The doctor did say she would look for alternatives, but she has a head like a sieve and I forgot because that's one thing I don't seem to be having much trouble with.

I had an hysterectomy about 7 years ago and went on to HRT. It was just a case of finding the one that suited me. You can have tablets, patches or gels.
The HRT caused no problems with my diabetes 🙂
Do be warned though that if you stop the HRT suddenly you will start menopausal symptoms again so wean yourself off gently.

Hello, I had to have my ovaries removed 4 years ago (when i was 40) due to cysts and was put on HRT straight away - i'm on Prempack C - and haven't had any trouble with my diabetes 🙂
If I was you I would go back to the doctors and ask why they have said no , or even ask your DSN or consultant about it and get them to speak to your GP.

I'm not in that position as yet but due to problems in that area have recently had the mirena coil inserted and was told that in the future I could have HRT if I wanted which would work alongside the coil, no mention of any problems due to my diabetes. Diabetes and a previous DVT could mean that it is too high risk for you though.

I take HRT and I am a type 1 diabetic. Also, in 1995 I had a brain hemoraege and a stroke. I have been on HRT for many years without any problems.
