Hi all,

I'm after some recommends for decent food processors. I fancy having a go at cloud bread, but don't want to have to buy a hand mixer, because that seems too much like a one trick pony.

To be honest, I'm kind of mad when it comes to shopping for kit. I keep looking at these things and then only feel like buying if they have 99% positive reviews. Current one I'm looking at is the Moulinex 5200xl, because its not one of those dinky little ones that will burn out as soon as you use them. But any others you can recommend that you've used for a while? Budget up to about 300 quid. Must be able to do egg whites into fluffy clouds 🙂

I don't think that a food processor whips eggwhites. I use my Bamix hand held for that sort of thing, then mix the heavier stuff in the food processor - which can slice and chop and mix for England - it is decades old now - can't think of the name of it - might be magimix - though with this cold filling my head with cotton wool - I'll go and check - yes - that's the one.

Sorry, I meant a magimix, the 5200xl is the one I'm looking at. It does have an egg stirrer/beater attachment (looks like two plastic combs end to end). Thing is, I hate the idea of yet another bloody single purpose gadget just so I can occasionally whip eggs. I'd rather a food processor that I can use for lots of other silly stuff too (chopping etc). Never had a food processor before, but given the amount of fresh veg I'm doing right now, it kind of makes a bit of sense to get something where I can prep in bulk for at least a few days of the week.

I’ve got a Magimix, which I’ve had for years. It does have an egg whisk attachment, which I did try when I first got it, and it did work, though I never got as stiff a meringue as I could achieve with my hand whisk, so I always use that. If I didn’t have the hand held whisk, the Magimix attachment would do the job.
I use the Magimix all the time, though, for blending soup, grating or slicing veg, making pastry, and kneading normal bread.

I'd just use an electric whisk, we have a big old sturdy food processor but it's rarely used these days, we just use knives for the vegetables etc as they are a lot easier to clean and there's no disassembling and reassembling to be done xx

I love my food processor. It’s my second one since I got married nearly 40 years ago and I’m thinking of getting a new one as bits are staring to drop off it and I’ve lost my grating blade. I use mine at least once a week, I blend soups, make all my own stuffings, great for Thai curry and chicken tikka masala marinades. Grating carrots for coleslaw or carrot cake ( of course I don’t eat cake 🙄). Fantastic for breadcrumbs for fishcakes etc. My present one wasn’t expensive so I would say with a £300 budget you should have plenty of options. Go for it, you won’t regret it. PS I must admit that my electric hand whisk is my go to for whisking egg whites.

For cloud bread I use a kitchenaid which does stiff egg whites perfectly. I make cakes with whisked egg whites instead of flour and it’s great for that too. Having said that I bought it prediabetes and whilst I use it a bit I think a food processor may be more useful which does egg whites too.
