Following a recent appointment with my diabetes consultant physician he mentioned that subject to a urine C-peptide test he would be happy to switch me onto Dapagliflozen, (10mg)
I have today received a prescription in the post for this, my test results having indicated that I have a good insulin reserve.
I have looked at previous threads concerning this drug and I am obviously concerned about the negativity from those who have tried it. I am currently injecting Humilin 1 and the consultant has suggested a dose of insulin of 14 units twice a day. I am currently on 24 and 20 units a day which stabilises my BGs reasonably well although I am currently experimenting with low carb foods. I have been using insulin for about 4 months.
I do intend to make appointments at my local surgery for advice but would like to know if you guys are still negative about this fairly new drug,

Not that I'm T2 or tried it obviously - but it's the side effects of high urine glucose I wouldn't fancy. Our kidneys aren't actually designed to get rid of glucose 'permanently' so that would worry me, let alone the 99.9% chance of my getting thrush and UTIs.

I think it can help people to lose weight so I spose you have to weigh up the pros and cons as applicable to your own body, don't you?

Is Forxiga the one that makes people nauseous when they take it, or is that Victoza?

I was prescribed one of the range of “flozins” can’t spell it. I have had it for about 9 months, not had any problems that I know of

The problem with this drug lies with the glucose excretion in the urine. Not such a problem for men, but in women all that sugary urine is like Christmas for bacteria and fungi, leading to bladder and thrush infections without scrupulous hygiene.

I take empagliflozin and not had any adverse side effects at all. No UTI's or thrush.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm a bit apprehensive as I looked back on forum threads and found the one from Annabel_595 (Feb17) and her account of her experience with this drug, although she was T1. I don't fancy another hospital trip as ours is in special measures at the moment and my last experience was rather dire.
