Got to get a few questions in before the big day....

1) What is the best cordial to drink...is it Robinson's (no sugar added) or is there an alternative?

I drink plenty of water but want something a little more fruity; I don't drink alcohol anymore but want to put something in a wine glass so that I don't feel I'm missing out...🙄

2) Also, is fat-free ice-cream a good or bad option? Or is there a make that is better than another?

Many thanks, Amanda x 🙂

Personally I have Robinson's no sugar added and it has no effect on my levels. I also have Walls Soft Scoop ice cream which seems to be OK for me - there is also a 'light' version, which has less fat. 🙂

I'm still trying to think what to have for a treat??? Does cordial have sweetners in it? I do have the Robinson's no added sugar but wonder if I should test after a glass.

The treat might be strawberries, sugar free jelly and ice-cream OR a slice of yule log..🙄 but the latter I know is going to be BADDDDD....

No need to test after a glass of Robinson's 🙂 You've been very focused on being a healthy eater for the past few months Ananda, so it's bound to be difficult to go against that frame of mind. The strawberries and ice cream sounds really nice, and if you enjoy it then it's a treat! 🙂

I think I've sorted out my treat...although I guess when it comes to it I'll just end up with the strawberries and jelly...🙄 Although, I did read on a tread something having a mini pork-pie dipped in brown sauce...yummmmm

It is no added sugar

Yayyyy will buy a bottle tomorrow; and if I add ice and a straw can make believe its a cocktail...🙄:D

But "no added sugar" cordials do contain sugar from the fruit - generally, the higher the quality and cost, the higher the fruit content 25% of undiluted cordial is not unusual.

A few suggestions for adult non alcoholic or very low alcohol cocktails here - http://www.confetti.co.uk/article/view/5315-8207-0-Non_alcoholic_cocktails_Food___Drink.do although aimed at wedding guests, still appropriate for Christmas.

Angostura bitters is a concentrated alcohol ingredient, but usually only " splash" is included, so acceptable for those seeking low alcohol, rather than completely avoiding alcohol.

Robinson's has 1.5g carbs per 100ml, and you dilute it by 4:1 with water, so it has virtually no carbs. It's sweetened with artificial sweeteners but doesn't seem to have any bad effects on me. 🙂

I have just discovered Diet Ginger Ale Amanda, and it has no effect but is very refreshing and sociable.

1 Calorie and 0 carbs per glass.

For a refreshing and palate-cleansing drink I have Tesco Lime Cordial, which I think is sugar-free (not just no added sugar). It's lovely anyway.

Tell you what I like - Tesco's own brand, flavoured fizzy water.

Natural flavourings eg strawberry, peach, lemon and elderflower, lemon & lime (ugh) grapefruit - whatever. Litre bottles, usually 3 for ?1.30 or similar. We drink shedloads of the stuff, it's very low in carbs - depending on which flavour. Strawb open at the mo - 0.2g carb per 100ml - hardly extravagant !

Amanda your Robinsons cocktail sounds an absolutely brilliant idea.........you could also make it sparkle by adding sugar free lemonade or diet 7 up so that it tastes like a bubbly champagne cocktail and you really won't need to worry about it affecting your BG because it won't . Enjoy:D

I'm drinking Tesco's sugar free tonic water with a splash of lime at the mo and it's nice.😛
