Type 1
I had my niece's communion on saturday which led me to getting together with my cousin, one year younger than me, who is also a type 1. You would swear we were never let out.
For dinner at around 1pm, we had Vegetable soup with a small brown roll, then Stuffed chicken breast and bacon, along with a mixture of salad which consisted of...rice (white), egg mayonnaise, mixed peppers, potato salad, cous cous, lettuce, tomato's, cheee.
Now you would think this would have rather filled us, but then my brother in law came around and put steak on our plates which then led to pepper sauce being added to that.
Yes, we were feeling rather sick at this stage, until we saw the desserts....
Chocolate eclair's with cream, black forest gateau, and a whole load more.
We had a small selection of each.
Two hours later we checked our sugars..........................................................................................
I thought the meter would blow up...................but i was.......................................21.4 and she was 22.3.
Not bad we said to ourselves for making pigs out of ourselves, so we quickly topped up with insulin and two hours later were gone down to 10.5 and 11.9.
More insulin at around 7pm and we were back to 8.3 and 7.6.
Not bad for a day of eating..... But it was worth it as it doesnt happen very often. 😱

SOmetimes you just have to give into temptation and it was a special occaision.

Sounds like a feast fit for a King.................glad you enjoyed it..............

If it happens again you could think about injecting as you eat, without stacking of course............

In Ireland have First Communions turned into almost mini weddings as they have here? The last First Communion I attended was 14 years ago - we went for a Pizza afterwards as my nephew loves them.

I was expecting you to "blame" the communion wine! But possibly less impact on diabetes than non alcoholic fruit juice used by Methodists etc, although "portions" are so small, I doubt either wine or juice could affect you.

You and your cousin ust need more practice in estimating carbohydrate content of desserts 🙂

See me I was thinking the 'Gin' bottle🙄

Haven't times changed..

In my day you had your communion, don you white dress and vail, suit and ties for the boys.. Photo's after and before then home.. No parties or celebrations just best china for tea!
