Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi

Does anyone else out there have Diabetes type 1 and Colitis. I could really do with some help in what food to eat.

Many thanks

Clive

Yep I do and so does @mikeyB I believe.

Don't have many problems with my UC and just eat a relatively normal diet.

Yup, I have Ulcerative Colitis but it has been quiescent for around four years. It arose a couple of months after the diabetes started 25 years ago.

I don’t eat any special diets, other than avoiding high insoluble fibre foods. In fact, I only tend to get flare ups if I stop consuming nicotine, formerly if I stopped smoking my pipe, and now if I stop vaping. So I continue to vape, and eat whatever I like, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian and British, all made at home rather than takeaways, then I know the carb value.

My diet is complicated by my Chronic Pancreatitis ( there is an association with UC) which means I have to take digestive enzymes in the form of Creon capsules with meals.

All these are minor inconveniences. Including the diabetes, which is well controlled. Or certainly the least of my health problems, but that’s another story.

I'll vouch for the nicotine and the creon but I think it's fair to say it probably won't work if you've never smoked/vaped. I had a flare up about 6 years ago and the consultant asked if I'd given up smoking. I had. Nuff said.

Best of luck to you.

You’re absolutely right @khskel, it’s only people who have smoked who get that effect in UC. Nicotine has no effect on UC in non-smokers, but the effect we get is well known.

UC is bugger when you’re in a wheelchair. In a wheelchair, urgency turns into hope😳
