Hi

ive been T1 since 2016, for the lat few years i had what was then diagnose a cluster headaches, however any pain relief i was given didnt work. The last GP i saw basially said the previous diagnosis was wrong and he suspects i have trigeminal neuralgia, i must admit after reading about it it does fit more perectly. He's put me on Amitryptaline for now, Does anyone else have a similar experiance?

I've had several episodes of cluster headaches pre and post D diagnosis and last time was given imigran a migraine medication as a basal spray. Worked rather well.

Hope the amitryptaline works well for you @Mr MCC 🙂

I have Trigeminal neuralgia, I was prescribed Gapabentin, but it made me feel so ill I couldn't get out of bed and leave the house, because I don't get attacks everyday, I opted to go without permanent medication, obviously if the attacks be more more frequent we will revisit the medication situation. I have been warned to expect it to get worse.

I took amitriptyline ( and gabapentin and pregabalin) for neurological pain and found they worked for a while but eventually became ineffective. But that was me, hope it works for you. With respect to amitriptyline my experience is that you should heed the warnings about slowly building the dose and then very slowly reducing the dose if you stop taking it. That is if you want to try to avoid the crazy technicolour dreams that the hippies searched for!
