Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2

hello everyone,i am a 72 year old lady living alone in a 1 bedroom disabled flat.I joined last April 2020 and have been looking through the forums to find answers to my own health issues {Chronic Pancreatitis and Diabetes type 2} i have been housebound for over 4 years due to many physical disabilities {some through falls others through severe osteoarthritis}

i have only my GP for support for physical and mental health issues ,He is only available twice a week then i can make a telephone appointment for the same day. my worry is that i am having treatment for diabetes type 2 with metformin when i have had chronic pancreatitis for nearly 30 years , i was rushed into hospital with excruciating pains in my back and stomach i lost consciousness in the ambulance and i never knew anything until 5 days later ,my husband was with me through all that time and he said that the specialist and medical staff who had been taking care of me at that time did not think i would recover . The specialist did scans and other tests where he found that my pancreas had destroyed half of itself by either the head or tail attacking the other part ,{sounds like a war scene in a science fiction or horror film } lol, i have taken Creon 25000 capsules ever since and pain relief medication for when i had attacks in the future.only last year my diabetes was diagnosed when another rush to the hospital with an extremely painful infection on my hand ,i had my middle finger amputated as soon as surgeon got me in theatre. this was when diabetes type 2 was diagnosed,My worry is should i be having treatment for type 3c? i already have mental health problems and being prone to panic attacks , i am more worried that my GP will argue the case as this can happen and i have problems with telephone communication i stutter and come to a freeze when i try to speak further then i end up accepting everything that is said . i dont have much courage lol.i would be so very grateful of any advice or any other thoughts on getting a correct diagnosis for my conditions. I do wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas especially with so much we all have to deal with this year.God Bless al of you. Love & Light From Gillianxxxxx

Hi Gillian - question - have you been issued with a blood glucose monitor to test your own blood glucose at home, via fingerpricks? If not - how often is your GP arranging testing that?

Welcome @samara 🙂

I don’t know enough to answer your diagnosis question but I think @eggyg has 3c so will know more.

Hi Gillian, welcome to the forum. 🙂

If you want to be checked for Type 3c due to your history with pancreatic problems, it's important that you communicate this with your GP.

Would you feel more confident calling your GP if you had a script and some questions prepared? I know I sometimes forget things I want to discuss with my doctor unless I have it written down before me!

Most GP's will not of heard of 3C, yet alone know how to treat.
