I'm just wondering if anyone has done this and can give me some advice
OK here goes
ive held a driving licence for over 20 years so when i passed i had 'grandfather rights' to drive up to 7.5 ton vehicles.
when i found out i was diabetic (19 yrs ago) my licence then had to be reviewed ( damn cheek) every few years during one of these i noticed i had lost a few entitlements.
one being 7.5 ton
i now would like to get back the rights to drive 7.5 ton again.
how do i go about it ?

have i got it completely wrong ? the dvla website is a tad complicated to ask questions on.

You most likely didn't lose your C1 entitlement, it's just that the codes us lot have on our nice old licences don't match the current licence codes and it takes some fathoming of the website to work it all out.

However I think we may have now lost our entitlement with all the very recent changes and if that is the case, you would need to pass a specific C1 test.

Frankly the easiest thing to do, IMHO, is ring the medical branch at DVLA and ask em directly what your specific entitlement is. Then you'll know for a fact. And if you need to fill in forms etc they can send em you!

I presume from what you have said that you are on insulin and thus have a restricted licence (1,2 or 3 yr renewal). This will basically only let you drive a car!

If you have grandfather rights then yes you can apply for reinstatement.
You do need to be able to pass the strict medical though before it's reinstated.
