Change of diabetes medication.

I have just received a message from my GP practise pharmacist (which I never knew we had), to say they are changing my Lingliptin 5mg to Sitagliptin 100mg. I am concerned I have not had any consultation regarding this. I have recently been diagnosed with SVT and hiatus hernia and have IBD and GORD. I was originally on Metformin and rushed into hospital where they discovered it wasn't tolerated and changed me to Lingliptin which has been very well tolerated. The letter explains it's to do with cost and that it should not notice any difference.

I am concerned in that I've not had any consultation it had taken two years of complaining of issues and admittance in hospital speaking with diabetic doctor when addressing Metformin issues. I am worried that no bloods have been taken and they are planning to take them after 3 months of starting it.

Has anyone been on this medication?

Sorry @MB123 I’ve no knowledge of that medication myself
but I picked up on your post that say you haven’t had blood tests or been seen for some time ?

many years ago I to often was overlooked and then about once every year (or was it 18 months) a GP used to refuse to issue the repeat prescription until I had bloods taken
at that point I reluctantly booked a blood test, not good

these days I take different care of myself (with the help of my GP/ DSN & a Diabetic Consultant)
following what I have learnt from others on here

I’m usually every 3/6 months requesting a blood test before they even offer one
I do this via the online appointment request
but in the condition rather than describe a medical problem
I just say something like,
due a blood test (in your case haven’t had one recently)
just a thought but it might be worth you doing something similar
also you could put on the same request you are overdue your annual Diabetes review / would like to see GP/ DSN following bloods being taken

Hopefully you get seen plus an answer to the change of medication question you were asking

It’s a different drug but in the same category so should be just fine

My GP practice now has a pharmacist and they carry out the medicine review, not the GP. However my annual medicine review follows fairly soon after I have arranged my annual check up. I know that the surgery should ask me to arrange an appointment at the appropriate time but I make sure that an appointment is made by phoning and making the appointment in advance.
