The article isn't really very helpful because lumping all cereal bars together is a bit meaningless, to be honest, for example you could call a chocolate rice krispie square a cereal bar and you would (I hope) not expect that to be low in either fat or sugar!

My "cereal bar" of choice is a 9-bar - it's made of seeds and is quite high in calories, but I use it as a meal replacement rather than a snack most of the time. It has a total of 12 g carbs and over 200 calories. Because it's relatively high in fat, the sugar in it has a smaller effect on my blood sugar levels than a "healthier" lower fat bar.

If I want a cereal bar as a lower calorie snack then I'd choose the Alpen light bars but they're not terribly satisfying as the reason they're "light" is because they are, literally, not very heavy!

One very useful thing to be said for cereal bars is that they are easily portable and calorie and carb-counted.
 
To elaborate on MaryPlain's "easily portable" comment, I'd add "still edible even if sqaushed completely flat and found at the bottom of a rucksack many months after use by date".
Which is why I use them in some situations.
Admittedly, some only have full nutritional data on the box, which has long since been put in recyling bin. 🙂

Yes indeed, many's the time I've dug out a bag last used for my holidays and found one lurking in the bottom! I'm finding that with increasing age I can't read the nutritional information anyway without my reading glasses, so if I stick to the ones I know, that helps.
 
I take a Waitrose LLYC fruit & fibre cereal bar, for when I finish my swim, also when I am on one of my walks.😎
