I tried celariac chips for the first time last week. They were great BUT the smell of the raw celariac permeated the house, even though it was wrapped. It absolutely reeks! I have also found that despite washing my hands many, many times the smell lingered on my skin for several days after cutting up the raw celariac. Any tips for how to handle and or good ideas for how else to cook/use the celariac? TIA

Use gloves, buy large packs of them in home bargains which are food handling safe, sometimes use them when chopping garlic.

I use celeriac all the time, either mashed or as chips. I have half of one in the larder, wrapped in cling film, and have just had a sniff. It smells faintly like wood smoke to me but I didn't find it unpleasant and have never even noticed before. I don't like the smell of raw cauliflower though. Maybe as individuals we react differently to different smells? Gloves are a good idea to keep the smell off your hands but I don't know how you'd stop it permeating the house.

I saw celeriac steak on a restaurant menu recently but wasn't tempted. I'll wait until I've tried it at home.

I have mashed celeriac with cream cheese don't really notice the smell.

Cut celeriac into large chip sizes, zap in the microwave for a few minutes then air fry with dabs of butter. Somehow makes it less celery-ish.

Thank you everyone. I hadn't thought of zapping in the microwave first, I will give that a try. I'm going to cook them up, portion and freeze for future use. The whole family noticed (and complained about) the smell last time. I bought another one yesterday and this doesn't seem to be causing the same smell throughout, maybe the packaging is better? Either way I shall def make use of some gloves this time!

On the topic of celeriac, I see I have some coming in my veg box next week.
Any suggestions how to get rid of the celery flavour.
It is one of the few veggies disliked by both my partner and I so, unless I can swap it, it will go to waste.
Given how much I hate food waste, you can tell how much I hate celeriac but open to try new suggestions that can hide the natural flavour.

When I made chips I used some cumin and oil and just air fried. I don't like celery either and chips didn't taste of it either. Reminded me more of sweet potato but with a zing?
