Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I've read a few articles lately on how cancer cells feed on sugar (glucose) and some latest research on cancer says that they can check how cells are progressing with glucose.

Does this mean that we (diabetics) are more likely to get cancer? :(

As we try and avoid sugar I would have thought we'd be less likely.😉

I had read metformin gives protection against some types of cancer too.

Read this link and wish I hadn't. :(

Well the risk in the general population is slight, about 0.03% so even a 20% increase in risk, 0.036% remains slight, roughly six one thousandths of one percent. It is so small that no one has even noticed it before. Moreover as KateR points out, many people are watching their blood sugar levels and so, if it is the sugar levels that cause it, you can do something about it. As the article states:

"The researchers say additional studies are needed to explain the potential relationship between type 2 diabetes and blood cancers. In particular, Castillo believes future research should focus on the role of behavioral factors like obesity, physical activity and smoking, which have been linked to both diabetes and cancer."

There is nearly always something that you can do to help yourself.

Case studies are going on a the moment to test Metformin on Cancer cells - had one of the researchers stay with us.
