Good Morning All
I have joined today so hello to all users. I was hoping for some advice on driving in the USA.
My current UK license restricts me from the ability to drive a 16 seater minibus, as this was removed from my license when i was diagnosed in 1998. Prior to this i could also drive 7.5 T lorrys as i passed my driving test in 1987. I have found different online statements from vehicle hire companys stating that as long you hold a uk license to drive a car this will be sufficient.
I find this bit inconclusive with no evidence to support that statement.
Can anyone advise or point me in the wright direction to clarifying this .

Many thanks in advance

Jayson

Welcome to the forum, Jayson.
That's a tricky question, and it's important you get the right answer, rather than guesses from people on a web forum, even one as caring as ours!
I think the answer might vary between individual states within USA. So, I think you should email individual companies in the specific state(s) in which you hope to drive. Also, it would be worth asking American Diabetes Association and Diabetes UK Careline https://www.diabetes.org.uk/How_we_help/Talk-to-someone/
If you're travelling with 14 or 15 other people, then it might be worth considering other possibilities such as 2 people carriers, obviously with 2 drivers.

Welcome to the forum. To other suggestions I would suggest contacting the American Embassy too and see what they have to say but whatever happens enjoy the trip to America.

I'm not sure what the answer is, certainly it will vary by State, to check a particular state enter "DMV statename". Certainly for non insulin-dependent diabetics there should be no problems, for my CDL (commercial drivers license) medical the only issue the DMV had was that I didn't explicitly state how many Lisinopril I took a day.

Car rental clerks will probably not know the answer but the class of vehicle you can drive is restricted to the class of your current UK Drivers License, so I think you will have issues in renting a minibus for up to 16 people (10 should be no problem)

A word of caution though, make sure you check your BG religiously.... Not for any driving requirement but for the fact that food in the US tends to have a lot of carbs so guestimates based on the plate may not be as accurate as what you are used to,
