After my blood test (for a vitamin panel) on Wednesday I've got a really nice big bruise come up.

I don't think my lovely vampire took the needle out straight.

What's good to put on one of those?

  1. Ice therapy. Apply ice immediately after the injury to reduce blood flow around the area. (Not directly onto skin though).
  2. Heat. You can apply heat to boost circulation and increase blood flow. ...
  3. Compression. Wrap the bruised area in an elastic bandage. ...
  4. Elevation. ...
  5. Arnica. ...
  6. Vitamin K cream. ...
  7. Aloe vera. ...
  8. Vitamin C.
Or just wear your bruise with pride! :D

I remember looking absolutely shocking after my diagnosis because of the number of canulas and injections I received 😱 Totally black and blue! 😱 Never thought there was owt you could do about a bruise except admire the colour changes over the ensuing days! 😱 😉

Amigo, I use arnica too! Very good for bruising, Mark T. My veins, apparently, are very hard to find & test the new young nurses at my health centre. The oldest nurse there knows me well though & manages to get the blood with a bog standard thin syringe. While others use the blood pressure cuff: REALLY hate that as it leaves a HUGE bruise! Apparently my veins are deep & hard to feel where they are!

At the moment I look like a black and blue patchwork quilt. Every time I inject my Insulin I get about a 1inch bruise😱, this is caused by a drug called Clopidogrel that I have to take for 12 months after my heart surgery. It stops the formation of blood clots so even the slightest knock causes a bruise. So roll on the end of June and I can stop taking it.
PS Witchhazel works quiet well on bruises🙂

The only thing that concerns me is that it still seems to be getting larger (that could be my perception though). Although the outer edge has gone to the yellowish phase now.

Oh they do but as long as you’re not experiencing pain or swelling, it’s just a mega bruise. They’re just part of my landscape with my condition I’m afraid. I came back from holiday with 11 bruises last year, most not caused by knocks.

It does ache a bit, but it's not tender to the touch.

When I see the vampiress next in May I might mention it.

I take Clopidogrel and I don't really seem to bruise any more than I ever did.

Oh well, at least my huge bruise might have been worthwhile. I'm low in Vit D!

It can also depend on who is at the other end of the needle. I had no bruising until they took on a new nurse at the surgery. On the third attempt she managed to extract enough blood but boy did I have a large bruise at the end of it. Fortunately she didn't last long at the surgery, much to everyone's relief:D
