Had a blood test 14th March, new nurse, got a beautiful bruise which is not unusual but it was a cracker. However, once I removed the plaster there did seem to be a bit of a lump but it settled down.

Now, 3 weeks later, the multi-coloured bruise has gone but there is still like a light brown mark where the bruise had been.

Have never had this before, no pain but is it something to enquire about or should I just stop being mardy and toughen up?

It takes ages for me to loose a bruise too. They seem to linger longer in some places than others too.

About 3 years ago I tripped over a toy, hit the side of my head and the black eye didn't develop for several days and lasted for weeks...

Is there any bump left? If it's just discolouration, then brown is what follows blue / yellow / multicoloured in bruising. Don't think that mentioning it make you mardy 🙂

Too late now, but best tip for minimising chance of bruising after blood test from inside elbow, is to press on hole with gauze with arm straight for 5 mins, then apply plaster; NOT bend elbow with a ball of cotton wall. This comes from my experience of both taking blood and having blood taken.

Dear MargB,

I get the after effects exactly as you describe every time I have a blood sample taken. It always clears up 🙄

Regards Dodger

I bruise really easily and, unless I get the good nurse, usually end up with a corker. But I haven't seen any marks such as you mention.

Thanks everyone. It is years since I had a bruise like this last one - I always find them fascinating and enjoy the colours

I had my bloods done yesterday, and have a lump, red in the middle purple all around it!!! she stuck a lump a cotton wool on it which promptly came off as I rolled my sleeve down, it bled a lot, I went home with a sticky arm. I think I'll ask for a real plaster next time.

The key is to stop the bleeding by pressure before applying plaster and rolling down sleeve. Plaster is there to cover hole, not to seal blood flow.

Good Lord! Can the NHS afford a real plaster?!!! Take your own just in case :D

Paul had a fab bruise once after giving blood, basically he bent down to retrieve his coat from on the floor under the bed!! (Don't worry her was thoroughly repremanded for putting coat on floor!) and felt something "go" in his arm. It bled for England - shirt covered! Came home looking like he'd got into a fight! The bruise extended from halfway between shoulder and elbow to halfway between elbow and wrist. Awful. I took a photo and made him show them next time - they were very apologetic!!

Hope yours soon clears up for you, I too find them a bit fascinating - but don't tell anyone! haha.
