If you look at the total carb content for the recommended portion of the particular cereal you can compare and find one you like that is the lowest. Some of the low sugar granolas are not bad, I get Lizi's which is 45g carb per 100g wheras some cereals are nearer 70g per 100g. I also buy Keto Hana granola which is only 9g carb per 100g but is mega bucks.
I will have Full fat Greek yoghurt with berries and then a 20g portion of the granola and that is filling enough to keep me going until lunch time. Alternatively I will have eggs with a variety of things, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, smoked salmon with a small slice of toast.

I would recommend you test your BG level before you eat breakfast and 2 hours post breakfast. You may be surprised or shocked the impact it has on your BG level. This will help you determine your food choices at breakfast but the advice from Leadinglights is spot on.

Like Pollyanna, I have 2 wheetabix with Almond Milk which is 26g of carbs and also 45g of Crownfields Low Sugar Granola from Lidl which equates to 22.4g of carb. My levels behave in a normal manner although I am now going to try Lizi's low sugar granola.

Personally, I like variety so on work days opt for cereal or Greek yoghurt with berries and on non work days I have eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and bacon.

I am really struggling with breakfast options. I am sick of egg!
I used to eat porridge almost every day but that has a dramatic effect on my blood sugar levels.
One piece of toast had much less of an effect.
I might look into the granola.

you could have mushrooms or tomatoes with bacon, or high meat content sausage.
cheese on toast
yoghurt and berries

Thanks for your suggestions.
I like all of those but (i) I have weight issues and (ii) on work days I don’t have the time, but I can have those as an occasional treat.

@AngelDelight Try the granola with Almond milk and see how you get on. If that doesn’t work for you opt for Fage Yoghurt with berries and natural nuts. It’s yum.

Is there a noticeable difference on BG if you eat museli as opposed to porridge I wonder? Outwith the other ingredients in museli, the oats are raw, so hopefully take longer for the stomach/gut to digest/break down, and therefore are slower to absorb into the blood etc?

Again, in terms of museli per se, apart from screening for low sugar (eg, raisins or whatever), the nuts and seeds are more likely to be higher fat than carb??

I find museli filling and satisfying, and keeps me going till lunch. I do tend to add extra nuts and seeds (OK, and few raisins, I admit, sigh).

You mention almond milk - I'd prefer not to (it's not that eco, apparently, in its production methods, but I may be wrong on that), but I don't mind the oat milk. Would that be lower carb than milk milk? I must go and check! Oat milk is pretty palatable I find - I can even use it in tea, and it doesn't destroy my cuppa!!

I think as with many things, only by doing your own blood glucose testing will you be able to tell if muesli works better for you than porridge. But I can answer re carbs in oat milk - the ones I have checked are around 6.5g per 100ml, whereas dairy milk is usually around 5g per 100ml. So slightly more but it depends how much milk you are adding as to how significant it is

@Callista Coconut milk (NOT the stuff you get in tins and cook with!) is low carb. Look at the Koko one. They do an unsweetened version that has 0.3g carbs per 100ml. It’s the nicest plant ‘milk’ I’ve had. It’s in a tetrapak carton either in the fridge (fresh version) or on the shelf (longlife version)

*Note - I’ve specifically said it’s not the kind in the tins because I’ve realised that my previous mentions of it here wasn’t clear and some people thought I meant the tinned version you cook with. I don’t! This is a milk substitute and presented as such with other milks and plant milks.

Thank you re oat and coconut milk. I think with oat milk I'll stick to real milk (I'm a dairy freak!), as it's just that more palatable and is (surprisingly to me!) a tad less carby - but it's good to know that oat is a perfectly good substitute as necessary.

Coconut milk I'd not heard of - only that the tinned stuff is mega-calorific!! (The type you add to eastern flavour dishes).

I shall look out for the stuff you mention. Thank you.

Just checked the calories of the unsweetened Koko for you @Callista - only 15 kcals per 100ml.
so pretty good.

I stayed over at my sisters last night and I'm always mega bad when I am there. We are all diabetic and a bad influence on each other. I was first up this morning and have been hankering for cereal for ages so had a large, very large, bowl of honeynut cornflakes with huge amount of whole milk. Fabulous. Not gonna measure my bg though. I'm an ostrich. Back to the eggs tomorrow morning, luckily I never get fed-up with eggs. Tesco would only let me buy 18 this week. Rationing is back! At least they had some in, a lot of stores round here don't have any.

I envy you your honeynut with whole milk - but I think I can trump you on sheer, unadultered piggyness.

My fave indulgence (and it is total indulgence) is Frosties with (wait for it!) not whole milk, not single cream (too runny), but thick gloopy and utterly gorgeous double cream.

Even I can't believe my own piggyness......!
