hi all ,
is blurred vision and not sleeping a reaction to

Metformin or is it part of having diabetes type 2 now 7 days with only 3/4 hours sleep per night a blurred vision

blurred vision could be due to changes in your blood glucose

Are you self testing at home?

High BG causes the eyes to change shape and as they come down again they take time to adjust, if it does become very problematic then I'd book in with the opticians but don't accept glasses just yet if they suggest them

I've no experience with metformin being Type 1 myself but if you check the patient information leaflet enclosed that would give a list of possible side effects

@Docb or @everydayupsanddowns would either of you be able to move this to the relative board as it may not get the attention needed with the title in a weight loss board
xx

Have you lowered your blood glucose levels? If so then your vision might well become blurred, due to the different osmotic pressure in your eyes. It should settle down soon - don't buy new glasses.
Since taking Metformin and Atorvastatin for just a few weeks my sleep patterns have been absolutely patternless. I often sleep only every other night, and the time I get to sleep can move forward by about an hour, as though I am working to the rotation of a planet moving more slowly than our own. It is not really a bother to me - I had hoped that it would settle down like all the other effects and problems, but it seems not. If it is really a problem for you perhaps ask advice from your GP - It look only 5 weeks of the tablets to have some nasty effects for 18 months or so. Of course we are all different, but really - do not soldier on and end up in a state if you are unable to function.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you are both doing ok and recovering well xx

no i am not self testing but i have cut most sugar down
Have you only cut out sugar? Sugar isn't the problem, its total carbohydrate you have to take into account as all carbohydrates turn to glucose in the body, often the "professionals" don't mention this meaning patients still eat loads of carbs and wonder why they aren't feeling great etc xx

what is classed as carbs ,,is it bread ,pasta, rice etc

as @Anitram has said but basically everything has carbs, nutrition is easily found on packets, product pages on supermarket websites etc, there is no one size fits all in how many carbs one tolerates and is very individual but the only way to know what you can tolerate is to self test xx

Ditching sugary things is good but it’s carbohydrates in general that are the problem, things like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, pizza. How are you doing with cutting those?
i do eat pasta and rice i have been eating brown wholemeal bread my problem is snacking and other health problems like acid reflux i am limited to what i cn and can't eat

Sorry to hear about your blurry vision. That has always been a sign of high BG for me.

Hopefully gradually moderating your total carb intake will allow your eyes to return to normal, but it’s best to make any changes gradually because it’s easier on the fine blood vessels. So just try a spoonful less if this,,, a slice less of that... rather than cutting everything out all at once.

We have lots and lots of members on Metformin who don’t have disturbed sleep patterns, so I suspect that would be unconnected to your diabetes, but check the Patient Information Leaflet in the box for any likely or rarer side effects?

Anything that contains flour will be carby, so hence pastry, crumble, Yorkshire pud, cake, pasta. Plus spuds root veg (parsnips are the worst but oddly carrots though tasting sweet aren't actually really awful!) and of course sugar which is mega high in carbs, not quite 100%but near enough. The human body does not care what colour the carbs are, or whether whole grain, wholemeal etc. Treats every one exactly the same. Extracts the carbs and turns em into glucose.
