I have to buy a BP monitor so I can test each day for 3 weeks before going back to DN with results. I see there are upper arm monitors and wrist monitors. Anyone any experience with these? Is one type better than the other? Would appreciate any feedback before spending any of my pension.

I have an Omron wrist monitor. Omron is one of the leading brands.

Wrist monitors are generally cheaper and more convenient but historically are supposed to be less accurate than upper arm, I believe because with a wrist monitor you need to ensure that your wrist is at heat level for an accurate reading.

The latest Omron etc models take care of that by giving you an indication of when the thing is positioned correctly, and they're supposed to be as accurate as upper arm units. Anyway, mine matches my doc's professional upper arm thing very closely.

The model number I have is HEM-6621 but I think that's region-specific & in the UK it's probably something different. One of their UK mid-range wrist units should be the equivalent.

They're really nifty, easy to use little gadgets - just wrap yr wrist and press a button.

EDIT: It looks like the one I have sits between the two wrist-cuff models available in the UK. https://www.omron-healthcare.co.uk/blood-pressure-monitors?prefn1=device_type&prefv1=Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor

It has the positioning sensor (the thing which tells you when yr wrist is level with yr heart) which the more expensive one has, but it doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity, which I don't care about.

Whatever monitor you get, do take it along to yr doc's to compare and calibrate against whatever he/she uses.

I asked my GP about this a few years ago, and she recommended Omron, and said it must be an upper arm one, the wrist ones aren't accurate enough.

I then found out that Omron make the ones sold in Boots as Boots own brand, and they're half the price, so I bought one of those. Not only is it made by Omron, it's supported by Omron - Omron sent me blood pressure diaries when I asked, and said if I had any questions or problems to get back in touch with them.
