Is it just me ,or has anyone else noticed that a lot of the 'beige' food some of us ate in the past was actually quite bland? (Beige in flavour and colour) . I am starting to realise that now I am using more spices, herbs etc to cook with that food tastes better and I enjoy eating it rather than just eating it. I had a few chips yesterday with my dinner, but can't say I enjoyed them. Same with the prawn mayo sandwiches I used to get from the local supermarket, it now feels a bit like eating cotton wool.

Yep, I agree with you. Some things I used to eat taste totally different if I have them now. I went to a wake a few weeks ago and it was a typical beige buffet, I had a few bits but didn't really enjoy it, I ended up getting the salad garnish off the plates and eating that!

The way that some flavours come through has been affected by, I guess primarily, the changes in diet.. some things are just plain different. For example.. used to and still do drink coffee but now I feel a buzz afterwards that I felt before..
I have to disagree a little if you will allow me.. one of my earliest memories is carrying home a loaf of fresh bread, I was so little that I had it held to my chest with both arms, the aroma was going straight up my nose , I nibbled at the crust all the way home.. I was a total bread addict for 50 years, now.. I get the smallest, thinnest slice I can cut and just let it melt in my mouth.. it is wonderful! Beige? Gold..

Oops.. "never felt before" about the coffee buzz..

I would have probably done that too, salad has got texture too, unlike a lot of the 'beige' foods don't you think?

That is an evocative memory. I would find it hard to resist some things I associate with a particular time and stage of my life. Candy floss may well be my downfall 🙄

What even that Kendal mint cake? 😛:D

I love a good salad. I have salad most lunchtimes and really enjoy it.

Mmmmmmm beige *drooooool*

I'm with you, @kentish maid, don't miss beige food at all. I don't even have any cravings for sausage rolls & even chips I find a bit disappointing these days. I like my food with lots of flavour. I go heavy on the seasoning.🙂

I just watched the Truth about Carbs, which I had recorded.
Looking forward to pleasant supper of green carbs with a small portion of beige ones.

Markyp you had chips last carb Thursday😉

I am not bothered about it now either. I do like some bread though so make my own from recipes on here and dietdoctor.com and other web sites.

Mostly at buffets I give up and end up with just salad and chicken as I never really liked loads and loads of starchy carbs anyway. Recently was at a buffet with out local Town Twinning and very pleased to see chicken, seafood, fish and salad as well as the usual carbs. People mostly complaining there were not enough desserts - I wasn't bothered as there was cheese on offer.

I had a bacon sandwich on brown bread the other day, it was horrible, I was gutted! The bread tasted SO sweet 😡
