Thought I'd ask in advance of going out this evening. Why do my BS seem to always shoot up when drinking beer but they don't if I was to go out and have a couple of spirits and a diet mixer?

So what about spirits?

Do spirits have lots of sugar and also more alcohol in though?

The higher the alcohol content the lower the carbs/sugar. For example low % wine (9%) is always sweeter than higher (13%). Vodka and other distilled drinks I THINK have no carbs present as all the sugar is turned to alcohol

I regularly drink spirits and the only problem is a drastic lowering of blood glucose if I over do it, as there is no carbohydrate in most spirits, little in dry wine but plenty in beer as most lists illustrate. You might try Carbs&cals or something similar I found it amazing.

I have to be very wary when drinking my favourite Pinot Grigio because it sends me low quite quickly. Being a non injecting T2, I can't just tell my pancreas to lay off production for a few hours! It's the only thing that makes me actually NEED jelly babies.

After experimenting the last few days & last night. I'm only ever drinking spirits ever again, I'd love to be normal so I could drink with my friends but hey ho boring drinks it is.

Do you not get on OK with wine Laura?

When drinking I have a meal before with usual qa insulin. Then I have largers while qa still in me over 4 ~ 5 hours and usually stay between 6~9. After qa finished have spirits. Before bed then have a takeaway on way home and give 50% of my qa. Wake up usually between 7 ~10. This works for me through alot of trial and error lol.

From a none insulin injecting one here and a very light drinker, I find I'm ok starting on half a lager with lime bs stays stable usually around 6 .
