Annual Diabetes review ?

Am looking forward to this one. Telephone consulation a few weeks ago, last Hba1c in Feb and GP would like on in Sep. Fine by me,how will that happen? Surgery still closed. I can (i think pick up.the labels from the closed surgery by an open window (don't ask). Not sure where I can take the urine sample or how I will even get the little bottle. As for the blood test itself, they don't do them at the surgery. Although the
G P said oh come to the surgery we will do it here.
Although the receptionists refuse to entertain that idea. But may be the hospital will take appointments by then. Checked today and their web said not yet. All good. Eye screening also due in September, to date that is also closed. Mamogram was due in July, that is also not happening. I am certain I am not alone. God what a legacy is going to leave.

I‘ve recently had a few phone appointments and they have worked pretty well to be honest - I wasn’t able to get bloods done beforehand, but I mentioned that I wouldnt mind an updated A1c and they suggested I went to the hospital phlebotomy service.

I was a little anxious going and felt quite ‘exposed’ bit to be honest there was nobody else there (usually the waiting room would have 15-20 people in it) and everyone was scrupulous about hand washing and sanitisation.

Got the result 3-4 days later. 🙂

My surgery gives an apt with a HCP. You turn up announce your arrival, wait in carpark until called to the door temp taken then escorted to the blood suckers room then once finished sent on way. So you need to ring your surgery again ask for clear instructions as to what is needed for the apt. Sample bottles can be collected from pharmacies or ask the receptionist for a bottle.

Hi. My two local hospitals both have blood clinics open and will take urine samples as well as extracting blood as long as you have the right forms from the surgery or electronic forms. Neither hospital needs an appointment - you just turn up and queue.

I got two letters in the same morning post both from the NHS. I attend several clinics so this does happen now and then.

I opened the first. "An appointment has been made for a telephone consultation for diabetes". I began to plan what I should ask and request.

Then I opened the second: "your telephone consultation has been cancelled..."

This has happened to both myself and my partner for two different clinics. I got my diabetes letters on consecutive days, the first saying I would have a telephone appt with the consultant at a date to be arranged in Nov and the next day the cancellation letter. My partner's dermatology telephone appt and cancellation came together on the same day.

How much time and money is the NHS wasting on these letters!

That how my GP’s surgery does it. Works well.

I think it can be a bit off putting having to go through the various systems that are now set up in Practices, but if you are clear what outcome you want and explain I suspect that you will get what you need. We were able to get bloods done if we wanted them, or they felt it was needed.
