Hi guys, just back now from Loughborough now and sad to be home!!

This weekend was the best weekend I've ever had! for a few reasons:

1. value for money in terms of the one to one advice from Alistair Lumb and Ian Gallan: so, SO helpful in terms of advice on what was likely to happen to bG during different types of exercise (aerobic, anaerobic, resistance, HIIT) so how we should consider altering our basals, suggestions for how to counter a post exercise hyper, etc etc
2. value for money in terms of the location (ie the place we stayed): it really was excellent and for the food alone I'd go back. We had so much to choose from at every meal, the rooms were perfectly suitable for needs and of course there was the gym which we were allowed to use as well 🙂
3. course content: BRILLIANT. not only did we get the advice from experts (invaluable) but also there was a good variety of workshop activities so I wa able to see just how differently my body reacted to different exercise - eg during a spin class, with a 70% basal reduction my bG remained stable at 6.0, yet a 70% reduction in bootcamp (think kettebell lifts, squats, lunges, skipping rope, ab crunches, basically resistance work) saw me rise from 7.0 to 9.0! I did a spin class (1st time and I'm now HOOKED!), then bootcamp, then badminton and after the day finished I went for a little 2.5k run in the gym so felt pretty amazed at how much I was able to do. We had a group rounders game this morning which was so fun too. The guest speakers were interesting too: Ironmen, triathletes, etc.
4. the chance to really get to know other T1s and realise that I shouldn't be so hard on myself! I was initially annoyed that my bG had risen 2.0mmol during bootcamp, but then was listening to others who had risen from 8.0 to 13.0, 15.0 and even 18.0 in one case!

All in all this weekend has been invaluable in terms of advice on how to change my regime to cope with the different exercise I do. Simply brilliant and i'll certainly be putting my name down for next year's too (whether I'll get a spot is questionable!). If anyone's got any questions I'll do my best to answer!! 🙂

Tremendous Dory, really pleased you got so much out of the weekend 🙂 I know when Julia went before she had a very similar positive report to make! Did you meet anyone from the forum ?

no, I know there was a guy on here that posted ages ago that he was going (but wasn't impressed with the organisation by Animas) - I could'nt remember who it was, so posted on here before the weekend bean but didn't get a reply :(

wow Dory you seem to have got so much out of this- what was the general ages? were there any 18 ish peeps .I did show H a video clip cant remember where I found it but it showed afew lets say older folk and he just rolled his eyes at me!!!

I've just heard from a friend in real life, a guy in his early 40s, who organises running / cycling / navigation / adventure races, who fitted in 17 miles on a coast to coast bike ride recce on his way home from the weekend.

Delb - it was a real mix of ages, from people in their early 20's right up to people in their 60's. Nice even spread too; no real grouping in one age range. I'd recommend it to anyone!

the 17mile ride is excellent! The weekend really motivated a lot of people 🙂

Glad to hear it was great! Shall tell my DSN who was asking about it and also my friend Vicki might tell me about it.

Yay, glad to hear that you had such a good time 🙂

xx

We see both these fro sport Daughter is a competitive swimmer and frankly they are genius, they have kept her in sport through puberty, fantastic advice always and always on the end of a phone or email 🙂

yep, all the staff were fantastic. Wish I had access to them; they put my healthcare team to shame!
