That does sound like a great deal Adrienne, aren't they normally around ?2500? I suppose you'd have to buy your own consumables though, doubt the NHS would fund them :(

My understanding is that If I bought this the NHS would fund the consumables, my GP specifically.........I would of thought they would be over the moon because you have saved them a few grand............🙂

Errr no

Pumps are prescription only so can not be sold on the second hand market, can only be sold with a doctors/consultants prescription...

So the seller should actually be reported for sellling medical equipement ilegally... Could end up in a prision sentence for them!

And would the NHS save a coupleof grand, not if they funded the pump in the first place!

It's not a great deal.........
1 was the pump privatly bought in the 1st place or is it NHS property?
2, the warranty is not transferable
3, the pump is prescription only.

No this is not correct.

You can self fund your pumps, so I don't think its illegal, you obviously need the support of your diabetic team so you can seek help and training........

I don't use a pump yet but if you wanted to buy your own, I dont see where the problem lies.....

Yes I know all about self funding. I did it for quite a while.
But you still need a consultants say so to purchase the consumables, as well as his or her say so to have the pump. They are prescription item only.Animas will not transfer a warranty either so if that pump goes t*ts up at any time you had it.
I had no team at all for any help except the company that supplies the pump I have in the UK. So don't bank on anything.

According to ebay it was bought privately in New Zealand I think and yes would be betwee ?2500 and ?3500, I have no idea.

I would imagine it will be taken off ebay soon but not if someone snaps it up. I doubt the sellers even know they have done anything wrong. It is the family of a deceased person. I am getting the impression it is not in the UK so maybe rules elsewhere are different, who knows.

Not all PCT's pay for the pumps, sometimes its the actual hospital. Our hospital owns all our pumps and the PCT just pay for the consumables.

Novoboi, the PCT will only fund consumables if your consultant (or GP if you are under your GP) agree that you need a pump, then if that is the case you would get a pump, you wouldn't need this one.

I would presume that this one could be bought as a spare but I would imagine that the warranty can't change to the purchaser or by someone who wants a pump and will have to fund their own consumables anyway.

Hi Adrienne,
How sad that someone has died and the pump is being sold.:(🙂Bev

Untrue. I offered to do this and was told if I self funded any part of a pump (ie the pump itself or the consumables), I would never be considered for NHS funding. I agree it seems silly, but those are the rules.

I would have thought that a second-hand item like this would be very difficult to sell for ?1k on ebay. If you made them an much lower offer and the auction finished with no bids I think they would think they would accept.

Not what my DSN said, she said could I self fund and the consumables would be picked up by the nhs......she could be wrong but I am going to assume shes right......

Logically though, if you want to buy your own pump, then why not.........this thread is referring to a second hand one, but a new one I think could be bought no problem.......

Were you actually up for buying your own pump shiv..........$$$$

I don't know if it's different in Scotland then, but that's the case here: self-fund any, and NHS funding is then pretty much a no-go. I spoke to my PCT and they told me that's the case.

Yes, if you can afford to buy a pump and pay for the consumables, I'm guessing most people are going to do that, why not? The key thing is paying for the consumables too.

I don't really want to go into the details of it, but yes, I was once in a position to purchase a pump. But I couldn't afford to pay for the consumables as well, which is why I started asking around (DSN, PCT and INPUT) if the NHS would fund my consumables if I did that, and was told no.

Gutted..........

I wonder if it is different in Scotland.............?

Anyway, I wont be funding my own pump any time soon.......:(

Given how pathetic the SIGN guidelines in Scotland are for insulin pump therapy, I very much doubt you could self-fund a pump and have the PCT fund consumables. This isn't actually detailed in the guidelines, though, so I would suggest making further enquiries with your PCT if it's something you could consider in the future.

I'll do you a deal - if I win the lottery, I'll fund you a pump & consumables. If you win, you fund me a CGM :D

done.........🙂

Err I think you find that most countries they are 'perscription only' America they are, I should imagine Europe is the same as their licencing regualtions are very similar to the ones we have...

But could you imagin how much the postage is going to cost to get it into the uk? Just can post it like a barbie doll.. You've got to comply with customs and exciles (sp) importation of medial supplies! etc etc...

So a bargin not

The bottom line is that ebay have an item listed which is not legal to sell as it's RX/prescription only.

As to funding I had one h*ll of a battle to get funding for a pump.
So with my GP say so I had a 6mth old Cozmo given to me by a lovely Gentleman in the USA. This is the only company that allows warranty transfer.
I self funded for 8 mths whilst the battle with my PCT continued.
I have the consumables funded now.
I clearly fitted the NICE criteria for a pump. But Consultant's kept making excuses main sticking point was that I use animal insulin. Which they maintained did not work in a pump 😱 ( pumps was invented way befor synthetic and analogues)
So my GP with help from INPUT started the battle for funding. We won. :D
